When I see this, what comes to me is indignation at the wave of attacks and contempt toward people who saw in AI an opportunity: a tool to realize their vision. People arguing around the small question “who is the artist?” forget something very simple: throughout all of human history, whenever someone wanted to express something and be heard, they used whatever was at hand: paint, clay, cameras, sampling machines. No one, in the intensity of trying to externalize an idea, stops to think “is this art?” That question is small, driven by ego or by the need for social prestige. The authentic impulse is to do—to put outside what is inside. Whether it will later be considered “art” by the gatekeepers of the time is another matter. And for those who say “the machine is doing it”, isn’t the machine without consciousness? How could it be doing anything beyond the mechanical part? A film director shares his vision with an entire staff. A book is edited, negotiated, transformed every time it is read, translated, commented on. Human meaning has always been distributed. This machine is just humanity mirrored back to itself...giving the possibility of expression to people who don’t have the same resources as a Hollywood director.
