https://www.rockpotusa.com/?ref=pldxlywy My girlfriend has been begging me for a Rockpot for months. She’s sent me dozens of posts that have come across her feed and imagined all of the dinner possibilities we could make with this. So we got one 🙃 (thanks to Rockpot for gifting it to us!!) I’ve gotta admit, it’s totally worth all of Meg’s hype 😂 I haven’t cooked with a crockpot in yearssss because I pride myself on putting in lots of effort to prep and cook every step of a meal, but this new lifestyle we have can be quite exhausting, and I don’t always want to be cooking dinner every single night… especially after a long day of driving. We used up the last of our firewood the morning we were packing up to leave Pinnacles National Park. We heated up the rock that sits in the bottom of the Rockpot directly in the fire and used the temperature gauge to read how hot it was. After about 30 minutes, we placed the rock in the bottom of the Rockpot, put all of our food in the pot (in this case - ingredients for chicken tinga - recipe for my chicken tinga burrito bowls is on my blog), and drove to our next campsite near Santa Cruz. Once we settled into camp, it was time for dinner and all I needed to do was heat up some prepped rice and fix our bowls! The chicken was still perfectly warm, so easy to shred, and it was delicious. Executive chef here. Please look up food temperature danger zones and the times involved. I'm not there, but that did not look like it retained the heat needed. The lack of steam when you shredded the chicken. You potentially could make yourself very ill. It needs to reach 165⁰, and maintain a temperature of at least 140⁰ until eaten.
This is super cool for camping but also surviving a winter storm with no power
Former chef here.... Please invest in a temperature probe.
Love it but I would be concerned about some food Bourne illnesses if I didn’t have a thermometer handy!
It didn’t even look hot. It should have steamed when opened. Get a thermometer pronto!
Yeah I’m gonna need to get me one of those now. That’s incredible
This is a very ancient technique! Before humans had good heat resistant metal cooking utensils or even heat resistant pottery, we would weave watertight baskets out of bark or reeds, fill them with the food to be cooked, then add hot rocks from the fire to cook them. A very cool interpretation!
Oo this is cool! Never heard of one.
lol In germany this technique is called "Kochkiste". But you don´t need a hot stone for it. You put the food in the pot and place on your heat source. After 5 - 10 minutes you take the pot and place it in the "Kochkiste" where the food keeps on cooking...
Omg... we need that for our nomad life. Thank you for showing us this❤❤
What a cool prepper tool
Perfectly warm. Literally no steam came out of that thing. I’m going to pass on food sickness but thanks.
Heat that rock before you put out the fire at night and cook breakfast. In the morning start fire for coffee or stove make dinner drive all day and dinner is waiting. Do I sound d excited😂😂😂
You could also wrap the hot pot in a blanket to make sure the temperature is good!
Did you know? There's an actual cookbook on using the exhaust manifold of a car engine to cook all sorts of things as you're driving down the road. Back in the 80s this was a big deal so out of it, came an actual cookbook.
This would be great for survival situations!
It's so old that it's new again!!!😅
Executive Home Ramen & Macaroni Chef here... 1. I LOVE it
Yep! Gotta have it!🎉 Mmm! 😋
I want one! For home bc yours truly is frugal as hell so I’m here for anything minus an added dollar on my power bill
