For some reason they taught us in school that gravity bleeding was an acceptable method. I have never even attempted to use it and I won't be any time soon

I am also a mechanic and can say that regardless of how many people say it cannot be done, I have done it many times and it has absolutely worked without a soft squishy pedal.

When replacing a caliper with a brake job, i replace the caliper and let it drip while I replace the other side, gives you a better start if you dont have a power bleeder handy

In my shop we do gravity bleed at the beginning until there's a steady drip but then we usually manually bleed or use the Succubus from there

Gravity bleeding refers to the initial fill , it still needs to pressure bled

I always did squeeze and release. Hold the pedal hard and have someone crack the bleeder real quick. Works great until you dont have someone else. 😅

I'm a mechanic for almost the 20 year mark. I still gravity bleed BUT it's just to get fluid to all 4 corners. I still bleed each brake individually after that. NO PEOPLE I don't trust a gravity bleed alone. Still bleed each brake!

Mityvac pressure bleed kit is the best way to bleed. I love how easy to it is to use and doesn't require a second person or topping off the reservoir.

I've been a mechanic for 25 plus years, i always let my brake or hydraulic clutch start by gravity bleeding which occasionally if the line hasn't been off long or if you just get lucky works, works at least to the point you get a pedal back, i always pressure bleed by having something pump or i have used a vacula, the point to me is not to rely on just a gravity bleed, recently i bought and use the one man check valve hose off Amazon and it works great in my opinion, haven't had an issue with it yet

Gravity bleeding brakes always works for me and I've been doing that for many years I had no complaints about brakes at all
