Our first report about the Gilgo Beach murders happened on an impossibly cold December night in 2011. They had found bodies on a remote beach. Eyewitness News reporter Josh Einiger and his photographer, Tony Saturno, were shooting another story in Suffolk County at the time. "We were on our way back and we got a call from our assignment desk saying 'there's a crime scene, there's a maybe body discovered', way down south on Ocean Parkway. After watching this I know more about the reporters than I do about the actual events.
It’s so disrespectful how they stressed Shannon and the rest of the girls as prostitutes i get that’s what they were doing at the time of their deaths but still it’s so disrespectful smh and it’s so sad that Shannon’s mom is also dead now when it was her that pressured the cops to actually get off their asses and do something about these deaths she was relentless she wouldn’t give up RIP Mari Gilbert (Shannon’s mom)
I'd prefer to hear about the victims and the story. Not about journalists or producers getting their scoop

As of April 8th, 2026, Rex Heuermann pleaded guilty to 8 murders and is awaiting sentencing.

He’s not being convicted of Shannan Gilbert. There was someone with her, neck bones show damage consistent with strangulation . If not him, then someone evil is walking about free, and watching this all play out.

Most of the people interviewed and interviewing in this "doc" watch too much tv. Solving crimes is not glamorous; it's often a boring slog through details that may not have any impact on the cases. Further, several of the people on here liked being on tv entirely too much to be taken seriously.
The reporter seems almost giddy with the attention that these gruesome murders have brought to him. He smiles when he talks about it.

A very long, time ago, I got drunk at a friends place. I went to the fridge, found a bottle of Dettol and drank it... I'm told I stripped my clothes off and went tearing around the local suburb where my mates made several attempts at bringing me down and cramming me into the back of a car in order to control what was happening... In my mind, I was being chased by witches and just had to keep running...If the area had've been swampy, remote or otherwise dangerous, I'm certain I wouldn't have seen daylight again... Dettol is an antiseptic...Stick to beer and don't do drugs. ps. Guys, Always be nice to girls, young women, ladies. They are precious and deserve our respect and protection...None of this weirdo nonsense.

It makes me laugh how all these city people think that is an isolated desolate place. It's 20 min from a pharmacy. It's the very fact that it ISN'T isolated that makes it dangerous. People are dangerous, not empty places. 13:42 They would drop dead if I took them to places I've worked alone. Places with literally 20 miles from a public road behind locked gates and 45 min to the closest house and 2 hours to a store. Absolutely silence. Literally no human made sounds. Just the wind in the grass. 20 mile drive through "roads" through sand dunes. I felt completely safe because there were literally no other people. I really miss that.
