ISUW 2026 Conference Session on “Gender Balance in the Energy Sector” was held during India Smart Utility Week 2026 at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi on 13th March 2026. The session examined the current status of gender balance across power utilities—including generation, transmission, and distribution—as well as the renewable energy sector, while also highlighting the evolving job profiles emerging in new technology domains. Discussions focused on gender-responsive policies and best practices to promote the Equal by 30 initiative, workplace facilities ensuring fair treatment of women employees, flexible work arrangements, and support services that enable greater participation of women in the workforce. The conversation also emphasized the importance of structured training and mentoring programs for career progression, the need for a granular National Classification of Occupation (NCO) to accurately track jobs in the energy sector, promotion of women’s enrollment in ITIs, and the establishment of training facilities near wind and solar farms to enhance practical learning opportunities.
