My 104-year old diabetic grandfather loved coconut macaroons, so I would bring him a box from a local bakery when I went to visit. We figured that if WW2, multiple cases of pneumonia, and flatlining during heart surgery couldn’t kill him, then he should enjoy a little sugar in his sunset years. He passed away last weekend after a long and fulfilling life and I’m going to the bakery to grab some macaroons in his honor.
