The statute of limitations is an outrage. If you kill someone, you should ALWAYS be held accountable, whether it was 30 years or 30 minutes ago.
I feel remorse and guilt for the smallest things from decades ago that people around me don't even remember. I can't imagine killing a mother and child and just after some time feeling "eh, the past is the past".

The fact that the guy from the first story's reddit name was Jaghatai Khan made me burst out laughing even though what happened was incredibly fucked up. For context: Jaghatai Khan is a character from the Warhammer 40k franchise the leader of a subfaction known for waging war using high-speed hit-and-run tactics (jetbikes, speeders, etc.). That alone leads me to suspect that it's a troll who just looked up an unsolved hit-and-run case for the sake of an incredibly poor-taste bit.
It’s pretty suspicious that the guy remembered the exact street corner the crash happened on (in spite of him claiming to be so inebriated he was unable to drive properly) and was willing to provide that but didn’t remember the city it was in. To me, that story reads like a guy desperately fishing for a reaction from people by looking up an old tragedy and conveniently “not remembering” part to make it seem more realistic, but remembering enough that people could easily google the exact thing he was referencing.
For those unaware: Jagathai Khan is a character from Warhammer 40k. The characters signature trait is the fact that he commands a legion of warriors distinguished by reckless speeding tactics (assault motorbikes and stuff). While no doubt this could be a coincidence and it just happens to be OP is a fan of the game, it also feels too "on the nose" that this is a guy confessing to murder on a vehicle. Most of his "legal" logic is incredibly off the mark too, so there's a chance this is just a troll that looked up an incident from 30 years ago and ragebaited this thread with shitty edgy villain rethoric.

As far as the water heater story goes you can’t seriously underestimate the incompetence of police when conducting a full investigation. It’s happened far too frequently where police “investigated” something and concluded that things weren’t involved only to then be proven wrong further down the line due to a lack of due diligence on their part. They seriously could have glossed over the water heater in their investigation.

I know it wasn't actually what happened, but if it were, he'd look foolish for being that desperate for a hug.
