I have a severe mental illness… do I live alone?

autistic here, my house is diveded in apartments and I live in one and my relatives in the others. I don't see my mother for weeks at times, but she's there for the things I need help with. I'm so lucky that we could make this.

It's always awesome to hear when people are able to be as independent as possible. My fiance works at a group home for individuals with mental health issues, most seem to have a schizophrenia or schitzoaffective disorder of some kind in varying severity. It's sad to see how little moral support some of the people get from their families. I'm glad you have that and I hope you continue to do well. 💙

I'm autistic and semi-mute. I have other health issues that make me disabled. I can't live alone because of my particular combination of challenges, so I live in a home with my brother and our mom. My brother bought the house 4 years ago, so that our mom and I wouldn't have to live in a tiny apartment constantly surrounded by noise. Our plan is to build a house with 3 private suites like oversized master bedrooms and a large communal space for cooking and socializing. We would also have a large art studio to quilt, paint, or dabble in other art forms. My mom is my primary caregiver with my brother as backup.

My sister is schizophrenic. Has been so for over 40 years. You sound so lively and out there. Keep on your meds and stay positive.

Its amazing how good your dad is. Severe mental illnesses like yours can be so debilitating and self destructive. I wish you the best and am glad you are soreading the word that people like you are still just a person at heart.

My best friend has this condition. She has been very stable up until menopause, and the change in hormones made the condition flare up again, for lack of a better term. She is currently living with her parents and we talk. Our last conversation was upbeat and I am hoping for the best. You sound lovely and I wish you the best as well. ❤️

my dad has the same thing but it’s entirely untreated. his delusions have entirely eclipsed his perspective but he’s very good at masking it, especially since he doesn’t trust doctors. i’m so happy to see someone with the same illness managing it so much better. it does give me some hope for him. thank you ❤

Living near support is one of the big things that has allowed me to live in my own place. Majorly grateful, would likely be homeless otherwise.

Support people are so important!!! My Dad will also come stay with me when I'm not doing well, I'm thirty. Never be embarrassed if you need support!
