That is a palace compared to the hospitals I've been locked up in. The cells are usually only about 12 feet long by about 8 feet wide. They only have a bed with a solid rubber mat and pillow. Pens and pencils are absolutely not allowed, only one supervised phone call per day, definitely no mobile devices allowed in the cell block. The standard day consists of waking up by being shouted at, given massive amounts of drugs that make you feel like you going to die, having a tiny meal, being shouted at some more, go to bed and hope you don't wake up in the morning... the best part is that it's completely legal to treat disabled people like this but its illegal to treat criminals in prison like this.

The lifd of a psych ward patient... 1- Wake up 2- Get up from bed 3- Eat and drink 4- Go to the toilet 5- Contemplate life, look at nothing and feel terrible because of your past mistakes that led you to this prison in disguise 6- Go to bed 7- Sleep 8- Rinse and repeat

I just got out of the mental hospital couple months ago and I didn’t even have a phone. We just watch TV and do activities. You’re so lucky.

This is really nice, the places I’ve worked looked more like prisons, patients can’t have shoe laces, anything with cords like her headphones, definitely no cell phones.

I was in one, involuntary, for 10 days. I actually met some fantastic people i still consider friends. Not everyone in a psych ward is there because they're "crazy." Had a friend in there because she saw it as a momentary "vacation" from real life with a job, kids and a husband. Knew another person in there because their parents had money but not enough to actually pay for his love or theirs in return. He made a "list" that he never acted on. Was one of the coolest and smartest "kids" (i call everyone 5 or more years younger than me kids lol) he just needed someone to actually care. One girl was suffering from PTSD from being raped. Another person was actually schizophrenic. None of those people I met were "bad" people. Lost, lonely, confused & hurt. That's what I saw. I was part of that as well. Some of the closest and easiest friends I ever made.

When I was in the psych ward, you didn’t even get a room. It was called “The Fishbowl” by patients because it was literally an open room surrounded by window offices and windows on all sides. You didn’t get beds, you got reclining chairs that didn’t even recline all the way. Just two bathrooms with open showers. And you got paper clothes and weird underwear that doesn’t even qualify as underwear 😭

god i wished my psyc ward looked like that 😭. we were stuck in cold solid beds with the thinnest sheets, we weren’t allowed to have any social media or anything. showers were always cold and the toilets were gross. we weren’t allowed to have anything outside of the psyc unless it was clothes from your parents. it was a nightmare there
