Who knew that watching a man assemble a pump for almost 45 minutes could be such a thrilling experience? All I can say is WELL DONE Sreten - you're well and truly putting Hollywood to shame! And big shout-out to the Bimmerworld team and Chris - you guys are genuine legends! 🎉 Finally, a word on the other protagonist of this episode - the pump from hell: while I can fully sympathise with your hatred of its design, one also has give it credit for being a serviceable item that even after more than 30 years can be taken apart and rebuilt by a skilled mechanic using (mostly) basic tools and parts. Most modern-day plastic-fantastic fully sealed designs will likely never see this age, let alone be fixable. So kudos to 80s/90s engineers as well!

Hi, valves and pumps technician is here😅 Those white teflon split rings are not seals, called back up rings and used in high pressure assemblies. They prevent the oring from being deformed or blown by pressure. Orientation specific, shall be installed downstream the pressure. For such scratches (like one on the housing) check Belzona 1111 compand or Devcon Titanium putty, if properly applied, would give you a perfect sealing surface

Sreten, before you finish this rebuild, has anyone considered getting this pump CT or 3D scanned? This is the only hydraulic unit ever made that integrates both front and rear steering circuits in a single pump, it was unique to the 850CSi, and it's been NLA for decades. With ~1,510 cars ever built, every one of these pumps that dies takes a car with it permanently. A full scan, even surface geometry, would give the community STEP files, allow housing reproduction on CNC, and seal geometry that any industrial gasket maker could replicate. You have the pump fully disassembled right now and that moment will never come again this cleanly. BimmerWorld or the E31 community would likely crowdfund the scan cost in 48 hours. You could make this car survivable for the next 50 years, not just this one... It will cost, but probablly it will worth.
