This new framework specifically targets “violent left wing extremism,” anti-fascist activism, anarchist movements and what officials describe as “radically pro-gender ideology.” Counterterrorism official Sebastian Gorka said the administration plans to use “all constitutional tools” available to identify members of left-wing organizations, map their domestic and international connections and monitor online spaces the administration considers “anti-American.” This is a dramatic shift from the Biden administration, which focused heavily on white supremacist violence and right-wing domestic extremism after years of FBI and DOJ warnings about the growing threat posed by far-right groups.
