Actors and performers call for people to join Nakba day march in London on 16 May

Actors and performers have joined with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign to call for people to join the Nakba day march in London on 16 May. The march, which has taken place every year for over a decade, has been organised by the coalition of groups that have been regularly organising protests in support of Palestinian rights since October 2023 to commemorate 78 years since the Nakba, the term in Arabic for the mass expulsion of over 750,000 Palestinians by Zionist forces in 1948. The Metropolitan police force has faced criticism from organisers after allowing far-right British activist Tommy Robinson permission to lead a march on the same day through areas of central London that the coalition had initially requested to walk through. Met Police Chief Mark Rowley was personally condemned by organisers after he said that they had planned to march close to a synagogue, saying it “feels like antisemitism”. Ben Jamal, the director of PSC, responded by calling his comments “fundamentally untrue” and called for a retraction. Support stories that matter.
