Anti-Poverty Activist Arrested on Her Lunch Break

Activism

“We are seeing what they are willing to do to suppress the resistance of ordinary people.” A nonviolent supporter of Take Back Power was arrested during her lunch break after being identified through facial recognition software. Ella, 21, was carried into a police van on suspicion of theft amid a string of arrests targeting nonviolent civil protesters from the group. One of the group’s campaigns involves taking food and basic items from supermarkets without paying and giving them to foodbanks. In March, officers arrested 15 activists at a Quaker Meeting House on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft, treating them as organised criminals rather than lawful protesters. “We will not be intimidated by the government – and we will not be intimated by the over 100 billionaires that run the show in this country,” said Ella.
