I remember when being woke was like seeing the truth behind things, or noticing things most people didn't. But now it means you can call everything racist and you're a victim of an unjust society.
The extremes in both parties get way too much airtime.

Had someone tell me that I am woke...but wouldn't/couldn't define it for me. I asked repeatedly to no avail.

I remember when Jim Carey was called "woke" in like 2017 for pointing out how materialistic & blind society was to coorporate control. The definition must've changed I guess. 🤷♂️

When I was in high school Sept '71-May'74, the general goal was to be color blind, with regard to race, just as Bill described it. During the Nov '94 election, as results were coming in , my TV was on while I was working around the house. I kept hearing Peter Jennings discussing congressional winners and every single one of them were identified as a "racial assignment-American". I was deepely offended by this and questioned it at that moment as I was surrounded by family members. My very liberal sister in law told me that particular language was politically correct and anything else was unacceptable!! I questioned how is that not racist , and I was told to get used to it. From my point of view, "wokness" started with political correctness. I am an American. My famlies roots don't matter. My ancestors risked their lives to cross an ocean to become Americans. For me to accept a hyphenated, racist label is direspectful to my ancestors. I thank God every day for my relative's courage which allowed me to be born in America, and I encourage other to refuse "woke" lables
That's a start. Liberal used to mean pro-peace, truth in journalism, live and let live. Now all that falls under "Old School Liberal."
Im 62 years old. Bill and i are going through the same thing. We are both "LEFT behind liberals"

We tend to forget that our forefathers struggled to build a better democracy, recognizing their own shortcomings. We, like them, may not see our own limitations & shortcomings, & future generations may rip our names off statues.
Maybe it's time that we all stopped looking for exact definitions for social attitudes and attaching so much importance to how we are labelled. Just get on with it for goodness sake.
