(Manila, October 23, 2014) Migrant domestic workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are beaten, exploited, and trapped in forced labor situations. The UAE government, about to take up an influential new role in the International Labour Organization (ILO), has failed to adequately protect female domestic workers – many of them from the Philippines – from abuse by employers and recruiters. http://www.hrw.org/news/2014/10/22/united-arab-emirates-trapped-exploited-abused

When it comes to domestic workers in the Arab world, there is a lot of sadism... then it makes you wonder if that whole region is the epicenter of sadists.

As former resident of UAE. I approve this message. If you have any other options please don't go to gulf countries.
After reading the comments I feel so lucky I came down to Canada.Employers here are good, understanding and above all they know that they are dealing with a human and not an animal.
I thought Islam is the religion of peace & compassion !!
I'm a maid in uae but i don't eat breakfast,no limited work and i don't go to hospital when I'm sick
I don't like stereotypes but some stereotypes about some ethnicities and religions are true.
I have been talking to a Philippine lady who is working in Jordan for over a year. She is treated like shit no days off and they keep her prisoner. She gives me a blog everyday. I want to help her get out of that horrible place from horrid people.
As an American Filipino, this breaks my heart. I wish I was rich so I could enrich the lives of my people who are struggling.
UAE, a place where money is king !
Everyone knows what goes on, it’s all covered by big flash building and architecture.
Everyone, a word of advice: do yourself a favor and refrain from scrolling down to read the irrelevant, closed-minded comments. It'll just ruin your day.
As an Emirati I have to say the best solution is to no let any domestic worker into the UAE as for many people here only think about themselves
what comes around goes around
All arabs countries they thinks their self as a superiors among other countries. And I am the victim also maltreatment of my employer. That's why I'd fighting to my employer as long that I live and I realized I suffered to much that's my I runaway. 😢
When you go live Arab countries as a maid, you don't ask to be raped, physically abused and even killed. Most of our women never get paid for their work, their job is not just cooking and cleaning their job entails cleaning their Arab grandparents or their disable family member ass or even Working in farm land, and all without break They don't allow them to use phone, they don't allow them leave the house, they only allow them to eat once a day, they take their passport away, they shackle them with chains, so can't leave, they call them slaves in Arabic language, they borrow house maid from one family to another. I know a lots of stories of house maids killed and buried in the Garden of the Arabs whom they suppose to work. Are they really Muslims? Don't they afraid of Allah or their profit Mohammed? How could they go to Mosque every day or every Friday? After they do this the maids or another person or human being.
It's absolutely correct the foreigners who are working here are facing alot of problems I worked as a driver with a national family. Although I was a driver but I had not enough time to sleep and eat......
UAE a place where cruel people have money yet not have broad mind to respect other
All of them dogs need a taste of how they mistreat people!!
Some don't live to tell the story. I have seen horrible videos on social media, of sex slaves, human torture and images which still traumatize me.
