In many German cities, bicycle couriers deliver burgers, pizza, and other food to people's homes. Thousands of these riders come from India, lured by the promise of studying in Germany, and have incurred heavy debts. "We're not animals!” complains Shiwani S. after a hard day at the Berlin labor court. The bicycle courier, who is in late pregnancy, has been waiting for a year and a half for several months' wages to be paid. "Why don't Germans do these jobs at Lieferando, Wolt, or Uber Eats?” agrees Samee U. "Ask yourselves that!” The documentary explores this question and uncovers a system of exploitation that is becoming increasingly widespread in German cities: thousands of young Indians come to the country for worthless degrees at expensive private universities. They are lured here by agencies and heavily in debt, as a result. Once in Germany, they are ripped off by unscrupulous landlords and end up working for entrepreneurs who exploit them: with bogus employment contracts, forced illegal work, and pay far below the minimum wage. The film provides insight into the precarious living situation of Indian courier drivers in Germany. The filmmakers immersed themselves in the community for months to conduct their research. Lawyer Martin Bechert describes delivery services such as Wolt, Lieferando, and Uber Eats as "labor law laboratories.” He represents many courier drivers, who are increasingly fighting back against their working and living conditions, despite considerable difficulty. Word of the conditions has now spread as far as India. In an interview, the German ambassador in New Delhi, Dr. Philipp Ackermann, warns against misguided migration that ends up in "illegal employment and precarious living conditions” via dubious educational institutions. There is an impression being built that Germany needs all the migrant workers that it can get and the second one is that German education is free . This is luring Indians looking to upskill and build international careers to go to Germany even without knowing the German language . A lot of them have delusions that they can learn the language quickly . Students must do the due diligence about the destinations and the institutions they are headed for . There is an old adage ."Look before you leap ". Kudos to DW for this superb investigative documentary .

For heaven's sake don't go to a private uni in Germany. They are there to make money. Study abroad scammers get kick back from these private universities for bringing gullible students
Students have to show source of funds in Order to come to Germany. They show false bank statements and then they are in Germany broke and need to work.
lots of different forces here at work. The students falsify bank statements to get residence permit as they lack funds to actually live in Germany. At the same time there are private universities and scammy agencies that get money from the students painting rosy pictures that have nothing to do with reality. And finally we have these platforms (and other businesses) that exploit the migrant workers. While i think governments should bring hammer to these exploitative practices by the platform companies by drastic fines, i also call responsibility from the persons themselves, as they are scamming the system to get access to European residence permit without having proper funds to actually be students. The middle men, private schools and the agencies should be pummeled as well. We should demand high standards from the private schools in European countries and detailed auditable action against taking students without means and prohibit use of agencies to deliver students to them. Co-operation with source countries should also be done to try to punish the scam agencies in the source countries, in this case India for example.
Very good documentary. There should be no contract workers, those companies should be able to hire the workers. The government should rewrite a lot of laws and get rid of those non accedited schools.

His student visa allows him to work only 20h per week. He works much more. It's time to review whether he's real student and revoke his residence permit in case he exploits system.
This is simple to understand. Taxis used to do these deliveries for a fee then Uber and Lyft came in at a discount. Now what don't you understand about it not being sustainable? And even when taxis did this it was a low pay situation. It was not earning top dollar
