What few people know: the information often ends up with a global network of data brokers and advertising companies. The data in question reveals where people live and work - up to and including information about visits to brothels or stays in psychiatric clinics. This film shows how easily unsuspecting users can become targets for stalkers, criminals or secret services. It highlights how seemingly harmless apps can become a security risk - even for soldiers at war, or governments. This documentary is based on one of the largest investigations of its kind to date: a team of journalists analyzed around ten billion pieces of location data. Their search takes them halfway around the world: to an Egyptian journalist in exile in Berlin who’s being threatened. To Brussels, where high-ranking EU Commission employees are affected. To Washington, where politicians see a security risk for US agents in Europe. Or to the Ukrainian front, where soldiers recognize their own positions in data records. The investigation eventually leads to a dealer in Florida who sold the location data of German and French smartphone users. I'm very sure I'm being tracked by Google and Youtube just by watching this video.
Despite always saying “no” to the question about allowing location data, I believe it just get’s ignored regardless.
Probably the only way to get traction on data privacy in the USA is for an activist to reveal the private habits of politicians and important people so that they can experience firsthand the insidious workings of this industry and its methods.
This is a must-see documentary for those people who cannot live without a smartphone.
Turn off your locations. Remove your apps from connecting to Google go under your aps settings
This is so insane and alarming! Europe should have banned data collection! Why are we allowing this to happen? Targeted advertising needs to be banned!
These days I've started using PC for YouTube. No more using smart phone. In car I'm reverted back to 20 years old TomTom which is still working with some deviation. My old canon digital camera is working beautiful that I share pictures using PC with email. Old fashion way, all without problem. And yes, in plane or train, I read books. 😊
In the future they will wonder how we willingly paid mobile phone bills to be spied on by companies and governments in cahoots. 🙄
Me and ex girlfriend use to talk about havinh a baby and suddenly all devices at home ar started to showing adds and references about how to get prepare for first baby , and we just talked ones while watching tv so we all know they can hear us and they see us !!

US and Europeans invented most of apps but now they say most of those are dangerous ⚡🤨🚨⚠️
The problem with videos like this is that the people who know don't watch them in full, and the people who don't know never have the opportunity to see them because a) they are not the type to watch a >15 minute video that isn't hyperstimulating, and b) the algorithm will not favor these videos because even the people who are interested aren't watching them because they either already know what's going on, or they think they know what's going on.
Unfortunately, phones and apps are a double-edged sword.
