Don’t marry someone who competes with you! It’s like having a teammate who won’t pass the ball because they want to score themselves!
“Even when you’re angry with them, but you still get coffee made for them in the morning, bc, you know they need it” Her words hit me.
Been married 34 years. It brings a tear to my eye thinking of life without my wife. She is my everything.
1. Marrying our best friend 2. Love is not looking in each others eyes, it is looking together in the same direction. 3. Committed relationship gives more freedom. 4. Good marriage gives safety and comfort. Just like a child who is secure about his relationship with his parents, is then willing to go out to the world independently knowing that there is a good attachment. Marriage is also an attachment. 5. Try not to let an argument hangover to the next day. Embrace each other every morning no matter what happens. 6. Do not bring kids into your relationship chaos. Be sure of who you are with and then plan your kids accordingly. 6. Dont make a shopping list in finding your partner.
Don't date people who put you in a vulnerable position and then refuse to defend you. IE: if he lets his family degrade you, you need to walk
From what I see, they laugh with each other. And they look younger than they are. That's what love do I guess.
When you give up the “me” for the “we” that is love ….the lady has got it right!
I'm married now 41 years. I would say that a good marriage requires mutual concern for each other's wellbeing. When I saw my beautiful girlfriend lovingly care for her nasty old grandmother, I knew I wanted to marry her. She had the ability to look outside herself.
Don't date someone you don't have complete transparency with. Only date someone who tells you everything. Communication is key.
If getting married is not the greatest desire in your life, getting married is not for you. Marriage is not for everyone. I have been joyfully single for 50 years, and I love every minute of it.
I was married at 24 the first time… widowed just under 2 yrs (at age 26); met my current wife 5 years later. She was 5 years out of a 15-year marriage with 2 children (15 & 16). We got engaged in about 3 months, married in less than 6 months. She had just turned 42, I was 31. Here we are 41 1/2 years later and couldn’t be happier. We’d BOTH marry each other again tomorrow. She’s turned 83 last October… I turned 73 this April. Let the good times roll!
just when you think the world is full of assholes, you find all these lovely people. thank you.
The advice these couples give is almost the opposite of what society tells us. Heck we’re at a place now where people are dogmatically saying not to get married, and if you do, prepare for a divorce. This is the content I look for as a single man.
A marraige that is held together by respect, transparency, and each partner working on their own character, becomes greater than the couple themselves. That marriage is a life force.
Married for 48 years. Rule number one. Dont marry someone and think you are going to change them. If they do something that bugs you. Can you stand that for 50 years or more? Because NOBODY can change anyone. Unless they want to change. And you harping on and on about it. Will tear your relationship apart. That was a hard thing to learn. I think it took me till year 16 to accept that he was who he was. And once I discovered that. There has been peace in the valley ever since.
Fidelity! Loyalty! Integrity! Transparency! Honesty! Compassion! Empathy! Kindness! Generosity! Helpfulness! Reliability! Dependability! Communication! Self motivation! Self control! Self regulation! Self respect! Safety!
The couple that the husband had a bushy white beard... loved how he looked at her. Tells me he is a good man... but also, that she has been a good wife. Comfortable and happy. Nice.
My 32 year relationship is ending, I married my best friend and thought this would last forever. What the couple of 53 years said resonated with me, "A lot of flowers don't bloom for decades." Also this, "Love is not looking in each other eyes, but it's looking together in the same direction." So true. It just tell me that love goes up and down, it's not a movie where everything is always passionate and great. You build a life TOGETHER.
After watching this, the one thing that stood out is that successful couples don't just 'fall' into love, they choose each other every day, even when it's hard. What they don't always say is that loneliness can still creep in. I learned from Book called "Hollow Intimacy" that feeling alone in a marriage isn't a sign you failed, it's a sign you need to rebuild connection. If you want dating advice that actually leads to lasting love, read this book before you settle down.
Humour is present in all the cases. I like the lady who said something along the lines, don't let things fester, talk about it, close it. So so so important. I hate it when partners bring up past mistakes that you thought delt with, pull them out whenever they wanted a win. The chap also saying both can be wrong. Great communicators.
