We are practical. We do learn from mistakes and we default to protection mode because there is no one that protects us, many times not even the law!

I actually wonder if it's more like rather than 'concealing' we just don't bither to talk about it. I think men's default is probably to not talk about anything unless they have to. Whereas women like to talk a lot more. So if you don't have to do it, and you don't want to do it, and your natural inclination is to not do it, why would you do it unless it's really worth it? (which includes being safe)
