Nothing beats watching the last place horse rocketing past the entire field in the last stretch to win the Kentucky Derby. Just AMAZING!
Golden Tempo took that "so far behind" quip personally.
THAT is how you race. Assert yourself, not too hard, take your space but know when it's lost, bide your time, and shoot for the opening at full bore. Brilliant horse, brilliant trainer.
Announcer completely missed Golden Tempo surging down the stretch like a rocket until the very end. Great run!

Excellent race. Congrats to the trainer on being the first female to train a derby winner and hopefully they'll be many more. The winner, Golden Tempo, has those old Wheatly Stable/Phipps Family bloodlines on the bottom... 100 years of breeding. Golden Tempo was bred to win this race. I was very impressed with Danon Bourbon's courage.. with only three lifetime starts in another part of the world. If that horse had prepped here in the states.. who knows. Where did that $2 million dollar Baffert colt finish???? Does anyone know?

Seeing Phipps 's black and cherry silks really takes me back to Easy Goer, Personal Ensign, and that great stretch - runner, Buckpasser, who always knew where the finish line was. Congratulations to a fellow Saratoga, Cherie DeVaux!
The Ortiz brothers finished 1 and 2 in the Derby...Jose finished #1 on Golden Tempo and brother Irad finished #2 on Renegade.....just an absolutely amazing race.....Renegade was back in the 15th spot and Golden tempo was in the 19th (last) place at the top of the final turn...
I dont watch horse racing.. but this really made this grown man shed a tear.. i guess never give up!😢
First and second place jockeys are brothers from Puerto Rico. Imagine congratulating, or being congratulated by, your brother, in that moment, on another horse.
