To be fair, many new rules have been phased in to make rugby safer and it has made a huge difference.

Rugby is Rugby. I played when the Ruck was a thing: you don't know fear until you're trapped underneath one and steel studded boots come hammering down upon your helpless body and face for what seems like an hour because you're on the wrong side of the ball. Right knee buggered, nose broken more times than I can remember, one tooth gone. Concussions?! No idea how many. And I was one of the lucky ones! I loved every moment of it. Still do. But then, this is South Africa.

The players know the dangers. They know exactly what they are signing up for. They do it anyway. There is no crying foul once they get injured... they jumped into this pool with both feet and no blindfold. And we love them for it...

Used to play at school, saw a friends ankle bone come through his sock and another friend get an extra elbow bend in his forearm. Stopped playing around 17, got a job. 🤷‍♂️

World rugby IRB has done allot of work and increased punishments allot for any head contact. So safety I would say is better now than before

I used to play with broken bones and torn muscles. When I woke one day after my 40th birthday my body told me now you are going to pay the price. But I would wouldn't chane one minute. We all knew how dangerous the sport could be. We chose to still play. Even if it caused me to end up in a wheelchair. We were ultimately the onses who chose to play. It is like being a soldier when you join you know you might be called to make the ultimate sacrifice, your family can't sue the army and say it is there fault because you were deployed in a combat zone. Men will be men we want to prove we have what it takes. Hail all the players past, present and yet to pull on that jersey and run on the the field
