I live in Massachusetts and when I watch the BBC discuss the US I sincerely don't know the country they're describing. The BBC's opinion of the States is not the version I certainly live in day to day.
She got to spend time with her little granddaughter, daughter, and son in law. That would make any place special. We're so glad she had a good time visiting USA.
Don't listen to the naysayers, the American people are the friendliest and most generous people overall in any state you may visit. I've travelled extensively all over the world and although you find nice people everywhere, Americans still wins overwhelmingly.

when I hear a foreign accent, I try to politely greet them and welcome them and wish them a good visit.
I think we Americans are generally pretty friendly.
The diverse American landscape has always captured me . And it's a place I would love to run around
:57 I´m 62yo and still think back fondly to our family road trips as a kid. Every other summer the folks would pack us into our station wagon and drive from Texas to up-state New York to visit mom´s side of the family. It was a 20-25 hour drive which dad drove in two days. We always stopped at the same motels every trip. The nights on the road would always end the same way; check into motel, eat dinner and then go swimming in the motel pool until 10pm. We would all be exhausted and fall into bed. Mom always packed coolers for drinks and making sandwiches at rest stops. We would then spend 1.5-2 weeks with our grandparents, and all the aunts and uncles and cousins. Glorious times.
It makes me happy to the center of my heart that we showed your mom our best side. I do hope she feels excited to return.

I heard this exact same thing, from two young british travelers back in the early nineteen eighties. They stopped to talk my sister and myself.They had just finished a trip for the summer throughout the entire united states. They said they couldn't believe the size of the country.It was gigantic.But the thing that really surprised them and surprised my sister and I as well as something to take away, was that they were amazed at how friendly everyone was.Everywhere in the whole country.
Emma, your mom is very young looking. You are too. So you've both got great genes. Two of the things I love the most about the USA is the beautiful geographic diversity and the different climates we get to choose to live in. The second thing is honestly our concept of government's role and individual freedom. The Declaration of Independence basically asserted that the divine right to rule our own lives exists in each of us by act of God and that freedom can't be taken or given away. There's just something so freeing about that principle that makes everyday feel like a gift.
