Thanks for the great list, there are a lot of hidden gems on here. I especially enjoyed seeing some love for Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi. That's one of the greatest modern 1st person dungeon crawlers in my opinion and it doesn't get nearly enough attention. A modern JRPG I think is really underrated is Look Outside. While it gets enough attention that it does have a decent cult following, I still think it is underrated because it was snubbed at most indie game and RPG award shows in 2025. The only 2025 award show where it got a lot of praise that I can remember is from the YouTube channel I Dream of Indie Games, but I also work for that channel so I could include my bias, and Look Outside is by far my favorite game of 2025. 😆 Here are some more underrated JRPGs from recent years worth checking out: -The Lost Child (1st person dungeon crawler in the style of retro Shin Megami Tensei - is also a spinoff of El Shaddai - Ascension of the Metatron) -Sword of the Vagrant (Vanillaware-inspired side-scrolling action JRPG - imagine something like Odin Sphere with a single protagonist and a single large world to explore) -World of Horror (JRPG / survival horror / menu-based adventure hybrid) -Demon Lord Reincarnation (1st person dungeon crawler with minimalistic anime-themed style) -Jack Move (A very short [4-8 hour playtime] but sweet cyberpunk-themed indie JRPG with a cool special attack system similar to Sabin's Blitz attacks from Final Fantasy VI) -Lost Epic (This could probably just as easily be called a metroidvania as an action RPG, but it has great combo-based action RPG combat, a completely customizable protagonist, and a lot of replayability with increased difficulty options for refighting bosses as well as postgame dungeons and superbosses)

Ah yes how a game about a book can be fun?! Makai Kingdom: "hold my page". As for Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery yes its hard as hell yes it very limited option wise but man the story if u like war dramas and sci fi this is almost perfect blend but yeah seriously dont even try to beat the game whiteout tryharding some sections.
