Mega Crit nerfed Hidden Gem twice in v0.100.0, and they were the most necessary nerfs you didn't know the game needed. Today we dive into why the nerfs had to happen, even if I feel personally attacked by them.

Your professional appearance and upper class background decor make you seem like an economics professor on a zoom call, not a gamer who does roguelike deckbuilder content. The contrast is interesting.

Not stacking replay - good, I'm surprised it didn't work like that already. Not coming from random card effects - bad, fun police change.

I love hidden gem. It’s so fun. Once got it as necrobinder on multiplayer and it somehow hit the card puts 4 souls isnt everyone’s decks. So I was giving everyone 16 souls and flushing everyone’s decks with souls lol

I was actually really disappointed with this change, because I love how fun Hidden Gem is, and this felt like this just made it less fun. But hearing your reasoning, it makes a lot of sense!

The way the focus moves in and out makes it feel like you just knocked me out in a fist fight and now you’re standing over me talking about some obscure card game mechanic while my consciousness slowly fades away

Don't forget about the enchantment that adds a curse and removes the 'exhaust' condition from your card. This makes genetic and other meta scaling cards insane and infinite stalling is now justified.

Interesting that Spire 2 removes or nerfs cards that reward stalling, because Dominion is Spire 1's main inspiration and Dominion 2nd Edition did almost exactly that!

I don't think stalling is as much an issue as you're making it out to be here. None of the examples you mentioned are situations that REQUIRE you to stall. You chose to do so because you wanted to optimize, but your run would have still been good without that optimization. I understand that MegaCrit don't want to incentivize stalling too much, because it's not healthy to ask that of your players, but at the same time, as long as it's not a necessity, I think it's fine. I beat A20 Heart in Slay 1 with every character multiple times and I never had to stall unless I wanted to meme on bosses.

Very enjoyable video! I personally really enjoy the change, even tho it was one of my fav cards in the game pre-patch. The nerfs didnt feel too bad for me at all as a casual player

Solution to either have a small deck, so getting the card with Replay is fairly easy, or stack your deck with several of the same card, and give them all Replay (my preference. Using this with Hidden Cache is so good.)

I get why they wouldn't want that but it is fun to be able to have cards grow with you or help grow you like feed and such

Hidden gem hitting rattle was beautiful. What would happen is that every hit of rattle would be added ontop of itself scaling exponentially

If you have 5 (or more) Goopy Defends [pael enchantment reward that applies to Defends in your deck and says something like "when played, this card gains 1 more block"] then you still "have to" try to hit them all with hidden gem before finishing a combat tho. This might be fine (read: not game breaking because it's too difficult to pull of safely) if your deck needs those Goopy Defends to block and can't spend time cycling for replay value without using your biggest block cards when first drawn. Also, you probably could have saved yourself a few mouse clicks in that door fight at the end by playing reflect to hit it for 55.
