In Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 10, the episode begins in space, where a woman who looks exactly like Beth Smith is leading a rebellion against the newly rebuilt Galactic Federation. She is skilled, dangerous, and already one of the Federation’s most wanted enemies. She calls herself Beth Smith — but because the name is so ordinary, even captured soldiers cannot remember it, which only makes her angrier. This is Space Beth. She believes she is the real Beth who left Earth to live her own life, while Rick left a clone behind to take care of Morty, Summer, and Jerry. But when doctors discover a device in her neck, Space Beth starts to question everything. Why would Rick put something inside her that could destroy her if she ever returned home? Space Beth goes back to Earth to confront him, and Rick immediately panics. He tells her the device was only a safety measure, but his explanation keeps changing. Soon, Earth Beth is pulled into the same nightmare when Tammy and the Galactic Federation attack during family therapy with Dr. Wong. Now both Beths are face to face. Each one thinks the other might be the clone. Each one thinks Rick lied to her. And they are both right. As the Federation launches a planet-destroying weapon and Phoenixperson returns to fight Rick, the entire Smith family is forced into a chaotic space battle. Morty and Summer stop the NX-5 weapon using the ridiculous power of Wrangler jeans. Jerry somehow saves everyone with puppets and an invisibility belt. And both Beths realize that neither one needs Rick to tell them who they are. In the end, Rick finally watches the memory he erased. The truth is worse than anyone expected. Rick never knew which Beth was real. He deliberately mixed them up, erased the answer, and avoided making the emotional choice his daughter asked him to make. It took me until today to realize that Space Beth's dyed highlight is the same color as her father's hair. What a cute little detail. Even if she acts like she hates Rick, after all that time adventuring and wreaking havock across space, there was still a piece of her that had some kind of complicated feelings, maybe even fondness (not sure love is the right word at this point in the timeline) towards her father. Edit: Important context! I'm talking about this episode specifically, not generally. This is "Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri" (S4E10)**, before either Beth knew that this Rick wasn't the Rick who abandoned them in their childhood. Without that context, Space Beth in particular has an understandable resentment towards her father. I know she clearly loves him, but both Beths are clearly operating on incomplete information (like who's the clone, which Rick has been cagey about to both of them, and they don't yet know that even he doesn't know, despite Beth entrusting that decision to him), which is why I say the feelings are complicated at that moment in time compared to other later parts of the series. **This is a correction, I incorrectly assumed this was Solaricks (S6E1), it's been a while. 😅 The Council of Comment Frogs has asked that I issue a retraction and correction, thanks to the commenter () who caught that. The rest still stands, though.

They have different nose shapes. From the side, Beth had a straight nose, which is consistent throughout the show up to when she was cloned. Space Beth has a slight curve. Space beth is the clone
