Based on real‑world history, this miniseries follows the American 100th Bomb Group, known as the Bloody Hundredth. Stationed in England, young airmen carry out dangerous daylight bombing raids deep inside Nazi‑occupied Europe. They face heavy anti‑aircraft fire, enemy fighters and huge casualty losses. Nobody really talks about the mechanics and service personnel that kept everything running and kept supplies flowing. This was a good testament to their part in WW2.
Running props and you can just have a conversation with people in the cockpit while you're in an enclosed space underneath the aircraft...

Once you have just a single engine running, you can't even hear the ground crew. In modern terms, the engines are straight piped. It's incredibly loud.
Yeah there's absolutely no chance that magneto is properly timed. Magnetos aren't component you can just plug in and play. There's like a multi step process to timing that thing. For all he knows, that mag could be sending spark to the spark plugs while the piston is on the exhaust stroke.
Edit: Title - Master of the Air It would have been better if they re-told all these real WW2 accounts (accurate or anecdotal is neither here nor there) as separate episodes instead of trying to force them together into one continuous story. The characters were also a mess.

The "Square D" squadron lost so many men flying bomber missions against the Germans that after the war, it was the only one allowed to keep their WWII designation. Currently, the Square D is a KC-135 arial refuelling squadron out of Mildenhall AFB in England. Their planes have legacy nose-art too!

I’ve heard a radial operate at a museum doing power run ups. You can’t communicate with anyone standing next to you. It’s so incredibly loud! Especially being surrounded by 3 BIG radials, however is standing close would surely be deaf.
They say the magneto is the problem but they show a old points distributor 😅

Magnetos are in the engines. He was in the wheel well. To access he would have an engine cover off.
While that's a load of hooey, it does demonstrate the level of tenacity and strength that Americans showed during WWII
