Apple’s new M6 and M5 Pro Mac mini and M5 Max and M5 Ultra Mac Studio are officially here, but after digging through Apple’s configurator and spec sheets, there are quite a few details Apple didn’t exactly put front and center. In this video, I’m breaking down the good news, the hidden costs, the “up to” performance claims, and everything you should know before buying one of these new Macs. We cover: ✅ Apple upgrading some recent M4 Mac mini orders to M6 for FREE ⚡ New 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and connectivity upgrades 🧠 Why the M6 Mac mini doesn’t actually get 170GB/s memory bandwidth 💾 Why I would avoid Apple’s insanely expensive internal storage upgrades 💰 The M5 Max Mac Studio’s “$300” GPU upgrade that actually costs $600 🚀 Why the $2,499 Mac Studio doesn’t get Apple’s headline M5 Max specs 🤯 M5 Ultra with up to 512GB of unified memory 📅 Why the maxed-out 512GB configuration isn’t available yet ⌨️ Apple’s subtle new Magic Keyboard redesign ⚡ Thunderbolt 4 vs Thunderbolt 5 on the new Mac mini lineup The new Mac mini still looks like one of the strongest values in Apple’s lineup, while the Mac Studio is becoming an absolutely ridiculous workstation. But before spending anywhere from $899 to well over $18,000, you definitely want to understand exactly what configuration you’re getting. Also, I need your advice: I just bought an M4 Max Mac Studio and I’m still within the return window. Should I return it and move to the new M5 Max? The M6 gets 170 GB/s memory bandwidth when you upgrade it to 24 GB RAM or more, at least according to Apples website. The M5 Pro have 307 GB/s memory bandwidth.
Not getting any of these upgrades, still rocking my m1 air and will continue to do so til it stops working. But great content as always
GB/s = GigaBytes per second. Gb/s = Gigabits per second. Storage transfer rates (including non-persistent storage like RAM) are referred to in terms of Bytes per second, while network and connectivity (USB/Thunderbolt) speeds are in bits per second. GB/s = 8 x Gb/s. Apple correctly uses both in their marketing materials.
I would go ahead and do the return for the M5 Max Studio since there was no price increase.
Got the M4 Mac mini when it was brand new for just over $500 bucks. It’s been a great experience so far and it will be plenty fast for my work for years to come. The M6 seeing such a big price increase will turn off a lot of customers.

m6 mac mini does get 170gb memory bandwidth if you go for the 24gig or 32gig model
The base storage amount is a joke in 2026. 512 should be the standard. It is nuts to have to pay such a fee to get what should already be in there.
I'm one of those that had just placed an order for a Mac Mini M4. Apple automatically upgraded to M6 at no charge!
Hi, would you recommend 24GB ram and 512 of storage for the M6 Mac mini?
We need a *Mini NEO* because the starting price of the new Mini is getting out of reach for many of us.
The M6 with 24 or 32gb of memory upgrades you to the 170gb/s memory.
Just did the maths and the original 2005 macmini was $499 when it was launched, adjusted for CPI it would be $856 today.
The sweet spot for me was the M5 Ultra with 96GB and a 2TB SSD for about $6000, which works out to about $121 per month with the new leasing option. $121 per month is a reasonable price for that kind of power, especially since I sit at my desk at least 8 hours per day. My current main computer is a 2020 27" iMac with a 10 core i9, 128 GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, so this is the best logical replacement. I'm pairing it with a 32" LG 6K Thunderbolt 5 display that cost me about $1300, so
That’s wrong. The M6 has 170 GB/s memory bandwidth in the 32GB model. Only the 16GB has the lower bandwidth. The M5 Pro has 307 GB/s.
No, the M5Pro gets 307MB/s bandwidth. The M6 with 24GB or more RAM has 170… according to Apple.
If you’re within return period, I would probably return/upgrade. Outro music… way too loud! 🐬

Rewatch the end of this video, it was like the academy wanted you off the stage during your closing statement. :D
I recommend for you to return it and order the new one, I had an order for the MAX 4, but I canceled and ordered a M5 Max for the same price!!
