I've been watching Alex for a few months now, and I'm pretty sure he has more computer hardware than t-shirts.

I think they actually managed to fulfill their project goal for this one. It is perfectly comparable to the MacBook in most ways, yet it runs Linux and x86 instead of macOS and arm. I guess it really just comes down to if you have the money for one of these machines and what os or cpu architecture you prefer

I think people kinda miss the point if the Framework laptop when making comparisons like this. The MacBook is better in some ways... Right now. Then when it comes time to upgrade or it needs repairs, you're buying a new computer. Overpaying up front helps delay the inevitable, but you can't buy your way out of Moore's law. You can put the motherboard from the new Pro in the original 7 year old FW13. Imagine buying a laptop and just continuing to upgrade and repair it as needed, rather than it turning into e-waste in a few years.

It's crazy how much price difference is between LPCAMM2 16 and 32GB, like common even if it's more than 2x 500-550$ would've been "reasonable" (we reached the point where 500$ is good value for RAM lmao)

Framework is beautiful and it's keep getting better. Adoption will make it more affordable in future hopefully

The best laptop deal was Macbook Air M5 with 24 gigs of RAM, before the price increase. I got it and it has replaced my big desktop as a dev machine. I can code anywhere, all day on battery, very fast without loss in performance. At home it's connected to a 27inch screen.

5:25 I think it's worth to mention there that the AMD version of the laptop goes up to the Ryzen AI Max series which features quad channel LPDDR5 memory in contrast to Intel's Panther Lake featuring the more mainstream dual channel configuration.

Framework charged my card for the AMD model today. Picked DDR and SSD locally. Can’t wait.

I wish there was an ARM processor framework could use that can go toe to toe with apple silicon. Cuz doing this kind of dev work on a completely passive MacBook Air feels like a whole different level of quality of life. Too bad the X2 Elite isn't quite up there
