Halo: Campaign Evolved reviewed by Michael Higham on PC, also available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. It's no secret that Halo: Campaign Evolved is a test run for developer Halo Studios and its future using the Unreal Engine, and from that perspective, it makes sense why this is a pretty slim package that retreads well-worn territory. The fact that I still had a blast revisiting the original Halo story in 2026 speaks to its timelessness, however, and the gunplay that revolutionized first-person console games and co-op multiplayer make it worth playing today. But that's largely a credit to Halo in general, and not necessarily Campaign Evolved, specifically. The new prequel missions are a fun couple of hours of usual Halo fare, and the elevation in technical detail with UE5 and the subtle tweaks in the older missions are nice to see. But I don't think they're transformative in a way that makes a significant difference to what's been great about Halo even two-something decades later. With the Master Chief Collection right there, which also has the robust multiplayer suite, Campaign Evolved is mostly a shiny trip down memory lane.

They gave it a 7, now you can leave the video
I give ign a 5/10
none of u mfs watched the actual video lmao
Personally, I would’ve liked three prequel missions of the arbiter leading his troops on halo instead of three prequel missions that are more the same with chief.
A 7 is fair. The opening sentiments of the review are valid. It is, once again, another recreation of the same game. Even if it is an impressive showing of Halo on UE5, it is still the same game from 2001. While revolutionary at the time, it doesn't hold the same weight today. It is still a great game, but a fresh coat of paint isn't going to revolutionize it. Especially considering it doesn't come with multiplayer. Just because the game was a 9.7 in 2001, does not mean it is automatically a 9.7 today. Things change, expectations change, what we can achieve change. Also, a publisher giving a game a 7 doesn't detract from your enjoyment. If you ADORE Halo, then go play it. Who cares what they said. YOU are the one who sought out THEIR review.
7? That's crazy!
The score actually shocked me lol
"I don't like long corridors & hallways." 7/10
Yes, let’s all stupidly reduce everything to a number and ignore the detail. We don’t want detail do we. It’s confusing. We wouldn’t want an explanation, reasons and analysis would we.
“When the base game, the anniversary edition, through the master chief collection are all readily available in 2026…” NOT TO ME WHO HASNT OWNED AN XBOX SINCE LIKE 2006 THEY ARENT
Bro got mad because the game is... the game 😂
no multiplayer is crazy for a halo game
Let’s be honest, an IGN 6-9 could mean it’s really good or really bad. Plenty of times they’ve given 6-9s and the game is great. Plenty of times they’ve also been terrible. Only way to know for sure is to look at the meta score and play it yourself.
Just here out of curiosity.. let me guess 7.. The reason not a playstation exclusive
The game has a Metascore of 80. The original had a Metascore of 97.
They gave the original an 8.2 , Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary an 8.0 , and now a 7 for this ... seems the prettier the game gets, the worse it scores
I am now 75 and have been building pc's since 1997 as a hobby. Halo was one of the games I would test with along with Quake and Unreal Tournament. This updated version of Halo really hits the sweet spot in my memories. Back then I played the full playthrough of Halo countless times just because the story and gameplay were great. I played a few chapters this morning and it really took me down memory lane.
You already know what they gave it
I heard "chromed out 4Runner halls" and had to pause for a sec.
They screwed up Cortana can’t change my mind.
