Heading into the Holiday a series is returning to Nintendo after more then a decade with the game even being playable next month free of charge. The physical game backlash rages on against Sony but new information doesn't paint a great picture for a potential backtrack. Oh man a golden OOT cartridge would be amazing
Yah no one is forcing you to buy if a company become anti-consumer don't give them your money.
We have an opportunity to create a market for a physical media resurgence of sorts. Do not let up. Do not buy a PS6. Keep pressure on Sony and any dev that markets with them.
Many games haven't been available for purchase physical. Training gamers to buy digital only. 🤔
How do ppl not see how bad in faith the framing of those numbers are. All it tells you is that the 7th placed game sold at least 100k, nothing showed for the 1-6th. Making it seem like they all sold in that range. Not to mention now many big tittles even released the past year. Also RE: Requiem sold out physically and was hard to obtain. What I gathered the last few weeks.. There are - Paid bad actors - Skewed numbers - Bad faith framing - Sabotaged availability for physical Y’all gotta stop eating up this propaganda, the industry has an all digital agenda
Stellar blade needs a physical cartridge on Switch 2
I know that every company is going to use only the stats thats are beneficial to their argument, but I also sometimes hate that they do that because they'll leave out important information. I'm not disputing that games are mostly digital with a ~85/15 rate in America but when other countries might still be 60/40 it makes Playstation's decision make less sense for customers in those regions
The statistics Mat shared are pointless without more context. "over 100k" - how much over 100k?... What's the digital ratio? How many games sold "over 100k" digitally? etc... Physical games also are limited by stock. Tons of indie games don't even sell more than 5k copies simply because no one prints them anymore.
Those physical sales numbers would definitely be higher if they weren't sold out everywhere on release
The Circana report is entirely useless to make any sort of comment on the state of physical games. 7 games sold AT LEAST 100,000 physical copies. It could be 200,000,000 copies. It could be 100,001 copies. This is basically the same as a math test saying "Jack has 3 pies. Bob has 4 cakes. Which of them bowled better?" How many physical releases were there? How many were physical versus how many were digital for each title that had both a physical and digital release? How many did those games compare along with the ratios of sales for outside the US? Let alone, showing the last 6 months when we really haven't had many big games released makes that even more dishonest to suggest that physical games are failing. I mean good heavens, the PS5 literally has what, 7 truly exclusive games at this point from Sony? If I wanted to, I could be dishonest and make it out as if the PS5 has barely any games whatsoever by comparing PS4 exclusive titles at the equivalent point in life that the PS5 is currently in, but it would just be manipulation of statistics (which anyone who has dabbled in statistics knows that you can make the same data set indicate multiple contrary things depending on how you present it).
Honestly, if my PS5 breaks at this point whether it’s from the metal alloy problem or anything else. I wouldn’t care to replace it, i just care that little about it anymore.
No Disc, No Buy, No PlayStation
As for Sony it’s simple. No disc = no sale. This includes no PS6 no more PlayStation and moving everything to Xbox and Nintendo.
That physical tweet is designed to mislead, to manufacture consent for forcing all-digital. Let's say a game is expected to sell 2 million copies in a year. That's a pretty solid number, right? Let's say physical/digital split is 50/50 (similar to Insomniac leak numbers). That's 1 million physical. Circana only covers US market, which is 25% of global. So 250k physical. And then finally we are in July. Sales are heavily weighted to holiday season, but let's be generous and say half year = half sales. That's 125k physical, right around the "arbitrarily" chosen 100k cutoff. Now you factor in that 99.999999999999% of games don't sell 2 million copies, and wtf are we even talking about here? Clown shoes statistics.
This whole tweet is just here to mislead. He doesn't even mention how many physical copies they sold, I believe RE9 sold around a million of them. It doesn't take into account how many games worldwide did even sell in high enough numbers for that to count. Let's say a game only sold around 500k to a million copies worldwide. Now you have to break that number further down by units sold per Country, because the USA isn't the only existing gaming market in the world. And you still have to break that diminished number further down if it is multiplat. All of this makes this tweet worthless. And it seems journalism is dead, because no article even mentions these things.
No disc no buy 💯 period
Deleted my Sony account. Dont care if they reverse decision, not giving any money to this awful company ever again.
I feel like it's been a bit of a slow first half of the year in terms of huge titles released on PS5. I bet with a packed next few months, and people also trying to send a message to Sony, that those physical numbers take a huge jump up
Every time I go to a store and check out new releases for ps5 the game is sold out. They aren’t making enough of them. My local GameStop doesn’t even carry new releases unless you preorder the game. Those numbers are what they are because the supply is not adequate for the demand. Sony sucks.
Doesnt matter if physical sells so little. It's about option, being digital only makes consumer being stuck on one platform that is not the most safe and have all the control over pricing.
