QUADRAPHONIC VINYL Explained under an ELECTRON MICROSCOPE!

Tech

In this video, we put a Quadraphonic Vinyl Record (Both SQ and CD-4) under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) You’ll see: • How it all works? • SQ and CD-4 quadraphonic formats. • Ultrasonic pattern • Physics behind all these things. I love putting "everyday" objects into an electron microscope — and Quadraphonic vinyl records reveal one of the most beautiful micro-worlds I’ve ever seen. Is analog sound really magic? Or just physics? Let’s take a look inside the groove. ---/---/---/---/--- Here's a link to the images: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ux0yYtuo_q0n6ghRHBaGOqHl9W9P_2f7?usp=drive_link If you want to support my channel - I'll be happy. https://buymeacoffee.com/ericmuzipov #vinyl , #VinylRecord, #AnalogSound, #ScanningElectronMicroscope, #SEM, #Microscopy, #education, #electronmicroscope, #StereoSound, #HowItWorks, #science, #Physics, #AudioEngineering, #HiFi, #Turntable, #RecordPlayer, #dynamicrange, #audiophile, #Nano, #MicroWorld, #TechExplained, #engineering 0:00 - 0:40 - Intro 0:41 - 1:53 - Stereo separation 1:54 - 3:29 - CD-4 Quadraphonic 3:30 - 5:14 - Stereo Quadraphonic (SQ)

My favorite quad experience was in 1978 at The Park Sheraton in North Washington DC. In their large auditorium (80' x 200') a sound company put some large speakers in each of the 4 corners of the room. Perhaps playing a four channel Reel tape, had lots of jets flying over, stampeding buffalo, jungle sounds etc. Everyone ducked when the jets flew overhead.

finally someone that explained how the grooves work in reality.. a lot of people confuses and explains that wrongly..

Loved the explanation, thanks! I also love how you casually use a home electron microscope, like it’s a VCR or something. 😂

CD-4 spelled the end of the standard Baerwald alignment (developed at a time when there was only conical styli and the highest recorded frequency was about 9kHz) because that alignment could not maintain the stylus position to reproduce the subcarrier all the way to the inside grooves. This was the introduction of the Technics alignment which traded some error at the beginning for better precision at the end of the record. And variants like the Stevenson alignment are still the best today to get to 20kHz in the inside groove. I never really understood why Baerwald alignments survived past the 1970's. Also low capacitance cable were introduced because of CD-4. Nice video.

I remember listening to Pink Floyd in Quad in the seventies at the planetarium was awesome. Also n Tampa we had Quad 102.5 and it was great to hear these on the quad sound system.

Obrigado por compartilhar, eu tinha 3-1 Sony Hp-279, sistema SQ da CBS integrado, comprei alguns disco no Brasil do Rick Wakeman quadrifônicos, era uma viagem.

I remember the two formats when they came out but have never seen the ultrasonic grooves up close, nor really got the math of SQ format, thanks for showing.
