I Never Expected To Feel This Way About Australia

The trees along the beach in Manly are Norfolk Island Pines (native to Norfolk Island, an Australian territory in the Pacific). They grow straight even with a lot of wind, which is why you'll frequently see them along beaches around the coast of Australia.

Remember, it's mid winter right now. 😊

I lived in Sydney for 15 years; 8 years in Woolloomooloo and 7 years in Beaumont Hills, which is in the Hills district (Northwest). It's the most walkable metropolis, I've ever been to.

Great thing about Australia is there's zillions of beaches like that.

If you head over on the ferry (weather permitting in the morning ) to "Mosman Bay Wharf and get off and then follow walking track along the waterfront which takes in a couple of stunning bays until your eventually arrive back at Sydney harbour bridge and the walk the bridge until you arrive back at your accomodation you will be blown away how stunning that walk is and away from all the other tourists (who never do that walk) and you will have it all to yourself (besides some locals out walking). There are plenty of Cafes to stop at along the way to get a drink and chill and just take it all in. Always during that walk you will have simply stunning views across the harbour back to the opera house and bridge

If you come to sydney. Catching the ferry across to manly on a nice day is the first thing id recamend. The trees are norfolks isl. pines.

My father's side are convicts and free settlers from England and Ireland. But my mother's grandparents came from Dundee exactly 100 years ago next year. They went through a lot of hard times migrating. But I can't imagine living in Scotland. To me regional Western Australia is different kinds of heaven.

Thanks Rory, that brought back memories - like you I found Australia was much better than I expected. What started as a slightly reluctant stopover on my way to NZ turned into several visits over six years, including cycling from Alice Springs to Uluru. Sydney is nice, but I liked the outback towns too. Broken Hill is fascinating. Interesting to see the beach at Manley in winter - when the summer comes it's really hoaching.
