My maternal grandfather was born to Norwegian migrants in North Dakota and grew up there. We still have relatives living there. It was a topic of conversation the other day to speculate on why Norwegians would leave the fjords and mountains, travel across an ocean, travel halfway across a continent, and finally settle in the most inhospitable and challenging biome in the Lower 48. A place where temperatures fall the lowest, the land is flattest and has nearly no trees, and only a few months of the year are viable for agriculture. Today ND is one of the freest states in the nation.

In the Uk we are taxed from cradle to grave, it's disgusting. You work all your life and when you retire you have pitance to live on.

It is sad for me to heae that you, and so many of your subscribers, appear to feel so defeated because of taxes. My grandparents on each side emigrated first to North Dakota, then to Oregon, U.S.A. from Norway and from Ukraine during the 1920s. While I still have ample problems the same as everyone, taxes in the states are not as onerous here as for you. I have lovely memories of Norway because while in the U.S. Air Force, I visited the beautiful little fishing village of Tromso while the Lillihammer Olympics were taking place. We marveled at how spotless the place was and how very friendly the population all were to us. I wish you the best.😊

My Dad is going through it too, he got taxed to oblivion when he worked, he did everything "right" and had a substantial private pension whose fund got taxed and then now he is taxed on the pension pay out. He has less than half the amount he signed up for when he started the pension.
Over taxation seems to be a big problem all over the world. Government leaders love spending other people's money.
The secret is to become as self sufficient as possible and keep your income low enough so you don’t get taxed.
My Grandfather came to the USA with his parents in about 1900 when he was 6 years old. They came from the Nordfjord area. They now have many descendents who have prospered. I am very thankful that they immigrated.
Norway used to be a high trust society. Now we don’t even trust our own elected politicians. And they definitely do not trust their own countrymen who elected them in the first place.
Same here in the Netherlands... taxes and more taxes gradualy every time. It is theft.
