You look beautiful in the green shirt you’re wearing! Definitely your color.
Hey Kristi, the healthy eating journey is awesome and takes time to adjust to it. A tip that has worked for my hubby and I (he lost 32kg and I lost 20) and we're in our mid & late 50s is to fast from after dinner until about 10.30/11am the next day. Give the body time to digest and do it's thing. Also we cut out all refined sugar, oils except extra virgin olive oil, reduced carbs, avoided corn as it takes FOREVER to digest, and correct portion sizes were crucial. Half our plate is salad, 250g of protein, and a small amount of carb (eg a slice of sourdough, or 1/4 cup of cooked rice, 1 sweet potato). It's a struggle at first but then it becomes a habit and we do it now without thinking. Hope this helps xx
That green shirt looks amazing on you! That’s your color
Unpopular opinion. Skip the creamie, you can make sorbet in the food processor. Its just another kitchen gadget we think we need but don't.
Beatrice Caruso has been eating whole food keto and makes 95% of her meals. You might find some ideas on her YouTube page.
Doctor here, that CRP is not "significantly" elevated. Is it out of range? Yes, technically. It's also very non-specific. It cannot discern infection versus inflammation. It's also a reading at one point of time. Perhaps it would normalise in a few days. Also, I feel like these are pre-generated interpretive AI statements...😂 *** EDIT - I stand corrected, the above is a HS-CRP, a more cardiac specific biomarker, a sensitive assay and a different reference range thus the reading is indeed high. I still stand by my AI company but would like to clarify HS-CRP vs CRP based on being rightly correctly below!
For dessert or as a healthy sweet snack, I can recommend Medjool Dates, remove the pit, open them in half fill with a little organic peanut butter, top with cacao nibs, a pinch of sea salt and cinnamon. Delicious, nutritious, whole food, no artificial sugars :)
Highly recommend adding chickpeas and lentils anywhere you can. I am a heart patient and i have had to make changes and eatting better foods can be hard. But sneaking lentils into hamburger meat easy. Chickpeas in a salad of any kind great. Even roasted as a crunchy snack lovely.
Kristi the Diary of a CEO podcast with Dr. Pradip Jamnadas would be an incredibly informative episode for you to listen to. I’m in the same boat, I’m currently down 25 pounds in three months and feeing so much better. We gotta do it for our babies. 💗
I have my blood work done by my Internist, and it is about $500 each time. This is SUCH A GREAT PRICE!! I gave up sugar and processed foods over a year ago, my cholesterol was in the normal range for the first time in 20 years. My husband's blood work showed low platelets, white blood cells, and red blood cells....but his hemoglobin was normal. His doctor told him he didn't need to see a Hematologist, but I had a really bad feeling and asked for a referral. The Hematologist immediately called for a bone marrow biopsy, and within three days, we had the diagnosis, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, AML. My husband was admitted to the hospital that day, with chemotherapy starting the next day. That was three weeks ago, as we are in for the battle of our lives, and will be here at least five weeks. Then he will go for a bone marrow transplant, which is his only chance to beat this. This kind of blood work would pick up on these issues so much sooner!! I'm signing up! Thanks for sharing this Kristi~
OMG....$10k for bloodwork?!?! So happy to be Canadian.
I had a CRP of 24.3 and it has gone down to 3 because I started a GLP-1. My rheumatologist put me on it not just for weight-loss but be cause it is so good for inflammation. I has changed my life and it's helping with my blood cholesterol, brain fog, migraines and the pain in my body. I haven't lost much because I'm concentrating on eating properly and moving again, and not on calorie restriction. I'll get there at some point, I'm just trying to be healthly again
Looking amazing in green btw :) I am a Clinical Exercise Physiologist from Australia and I have been watching you for YEARS but I feel weird about giving unsolicited health advice.. but hey you asked haha!! I know how hard it is to adjust to less processed foods as they taste AMAZING and are convenient, but you are absolutely on the right track with eating more whole foods. A general recommendation would be to incorporate more fibre through whole grains + protein (I know everyone talks about it but it keeps you really full and reduces snacking). You don't have to cut out the pasta and bread just try and swap for a wholegrain option or opt for potatoes (when yours start flourishing) as you can eat more and feel fuller than a slice of bread. Protein sources are strong in what you eat, and hopefully, as your veggie garden takes off then you have lots of fresh produce. Snacks are where my patients struggle the most - I make myself whole food options rather than reaching for a processed snack so they have fibre, protein and carbs to keep me full. Examples of snacks my patients love are: 1. Banana bread with (bananas, yoghurt, honey, eggs and flour + cinnamon) 2. Tuna patties with herbs and spices that are pre- made and I can just munch on. 3. Hummus with no vegetable oil (literally 1 can of chickpeas... I think American's say fava beans? + 1/2 teaspoon of tahini + 1 clove of garlic + add water to thin it out = whizz it up and BAM you have fresh hummus). YOU GOT THIS KRISTI!!!!! Love from Australia xxxx
You can do it!!!
The one thing that helped me immensely was tracking everything I ate and drank. I used a food scale and an app. I was astounded at how large my previous portions of food were. Even healthy food in large quantities add up so quickly.
Found out I'm vitamin D deficienct. I'm on a prescription strength D now. I am prioritizing myself now because I'm a single mom and I need to be here for my kids.
Not everyone has 400 dollars to do this. I wish I did. Chronic pain sucks.
Whole foods feels so difficult until you find the recipes that make your heart sing!
