So sorry. I totally get how you feel. It is a violation of your personal space. Many people look at gardens and just see landscaping or a lot of work. Gardeners look at their gardens as a piece of them and actually feel when bad things happen. Best wishes on reconciling your emotions and regaining your peace.
I’m so sorry that happened! I would also be so upset to lose a huge strip like that, and I’d be pissed because that is not what the contractor described happening. 😔😣
Yeah, they'd be receiving a bill for the *expense* and *labor* accrued to repair all the *DAMAGE* they caused. Best to you. 💜🙏🏾
So sorry this happened to you. We had our roof done two weeks ago and had specifically covered expensive and special plants with large pots and wire baskets. I had also talked with the company owner and the Forman about being careful. Needless to say, the workers knocked off the covers and crushed, not just stepped on, crushed almost everything within 6 feet of the house. It made me so sad and disrespected that there was so much ruined. Hugs to you, hope the gardens become even more beautiful. I'm on replant mode as well.
Awful! So sorry. You are handling this better than I would.
Ugh...heartbreaking! Will the electrician compensate you in any way?
Did you send him a note with the estimated cost and time involved in what was destroyed? As in, ‘hey I get it, your job is X and this probably just plants for you, but in hoping that you might give future clients a better idea of what they’re facing, the plants that were lost cost approx $X and took over X hours to plan, plant and care for’. I know I’d want to let it go for my own anger, but - man - that’s crazy. Feeling for you 💯💯💯
Your perspective is healthy. I will say that the contractor did make a mess of your bed. We had electrical conduit put across our backyard, and the trencher disturbed, at maximum, a 12 inch swath. I don’t understand how your bed was so messed up. Very sad and I would be depressed too.
When you said, “They went right through a peony…” I literally gasped out loud. I’m glad time has given you perspective but you are not alone in the feeling of upset and outrage at the damage done. On the bright side, I’m looking forward to seeing what pulls through and what you plant!
Oh honey! I would be beyond upset!!! Absolutely ridiculous. Were they asleep while destroying your hard work?! I have had very similar things happen in my garden. These are people we PAY to give a damn. Amazing
So sorry to hear about your garden. It sucks when all of your hard work gets ruined by someone else.
We care about the plants that we picked out, planted and nurtured, I agree with you, it is heartbreaking !
A garden is our personal artwork that takes decades to complete. Very sorry this happened to you
Erin, all of us gardeners are feeling your loss with you. Plants in our gardens are living and breathing things that we care for so it is very personal like you said. Your attitude toward gardening has helped me get over a lot of garden challenges in the past, thanks for sharing the good and the bad - a really real garden! Also loved the eagles clip- soo amazing!
We all feel your pain believe me. It happened to a friend of mine. It would be great if every crew had a gardener in it to prevent this kind of massacre.😢
I’m so disappointed by what happened to your garden. For whatever reason you (THE CUSTOMER!) were not heard. The contractor could have said I can’t do this job instead of ignoring your wishes. Your time has value and they owe you financially. Also… very dangerous if Diggers Hotline isn’t going to do their job.
I’m so sorry this happened! I can totally relate, is garden vandalism. Sigh!😢
Erin, you have brought us, perhaps, your most important, heartfelt video yet. Your words describing such raw emotions and reactions to this tragic violation must resonate with so many of your followers as similar sentiments have come out of my mouth on too many occasions. I feel sick to my stomach when I contemplate allowing someone to do work on my property, assuming, through past experience, destruction and disrespect. No one loves the spaces we've created like we do and I always find it incomprehensible that others don't understand what their disregard feels like to me. I once had a stone mason throw his unused mortar into one of my garden beds!😮. Thank you for sharing this painful experience with us. Know that you are not alone.❤
Oh my heart hurts for you. That sucks.
I’m so sorry to hear that! I’ve worked at an engineering firm with an emphasis on utility work and we took painstaking care to be mindful of clients’ landscaping. I’m honestly shocked they were so blasé about their work. My heart goes out to you and your beautiful garden space! Anyone who has watched your videos throughout the years knows how much effort you put in.
