Caterpillars Literally Melt Themselves 🐛 #sciencefacts #biologyfacts #animalfacts #butterfly

Nature and animals

What actually happens inside a chrysalis? If you cut one open, you will not find a growing butterfly. You will find a puddle of pure biological soup. To become a butterfly, a caterpillar must completely dissolve its own body. There is no brain and no heart left. But hidden inside that liquid are dormant blueprints called imaginal discs. Once the caterpillar melts and its immune system shuts down, these discs wake up and use the liquid remains to build a completely new animal. The butterfly that emerges is an entirely different creature that just used a dead caterpillar as construction material. The physical science is bizarre but perfectly understood. The real mystery is what happens to the mind Do you think a butterfly remembers its life as a crawling caterpillar?
