*throws away ten years of career "lol you trusted me. you imbecile. you absolute buffoon. you fell victim to one of the classic blunders"
It’s like stealing from your best friend, then after a few months showing your friend the stolen item and being like: „Dude… You didn’t even suspect me for a second. I’m disappointed”
He proved you can exploit an honor system by being dishonorable. What a great experiment!!!
"Being good doesn't make you any less susceptible to cheating." - Karl Jobst It's really amazing how evergreen this sentence is.
Like, what is the plan if the moderator does find it as fake? “Yeah I’m not actually cheating I’m just testing you.”
We shouldn't rush to conclusions before we get a report from an astrophysicist
He was definitely trying to act as if the run was real. In retromeister's video he shows a message from Drashed where he pretty much wishes other people good luck trying to beat his run after an emotional story about his speedrunning career.
I still want to advocate for a "Cheated Runs Board". Players submit cheated runs, but don't detail how it is cheated. It sits on a public waiting list for 6 months where people can attempt to point out the method of cheating. If the method of cheating is identified, they are knocked off the leaderboard. If it remains unidentified for 6 months, then the creator of the speedrun reveals how it is done and is then immortalised on the leaderboards. I think it would be a good mix of fun, and educational for the community.🎉
agree with the guy who said he like seeing karl talk about faked speedruns One thing that would be cool though is to see some videos about legit players accused of cheating, as a change of pace and also as like a comparison to see what cheaters do that legit players don't even when they look sus
"I guarantee I could cheat a Goldeneye speed run and nobody would know" You know I always got the feeling Karl cheated his juggling speedrun
the title kinds sounds like a dhar mhan tittle
Wow that was quick. Retro's comments we're right 😂

Great video and a good complement to mine. Thanks Karl.
I feel a lot more sympathetic to Joe at the start here because while his run was faked, the symbol in the bottom right of the screen gives that away. All the mods had to do was watch the run for 1 frame.
2:40 devils advocate. It IS ridiculous the website banned him. They don't site ban creators that kept cheated runs up with the actual intention of them never being discovered, but the guy who outs it himself they ban because it hurt their own reputation. That's just kind of sad.
Guy unironically said "I can show you how to catch a murder let me kill someone" followed by "It's not my fault the silly investigation didn't find me"
This is like stealing from someone then blaming them for how easy it was.
These people acting like they're exposing the entire website by submitting fake runs need to realize that it's maintained voluntarily and nobody has time to review 1000s of hours of footage to spot fakes and splices. There's so much trust in that community because it's literally impossible to review all footage. It's done on a case-by-case basis and the speedrunners themselves need to help spotting cheaters, instead of putting the blame on volunteers for not having as much/more free time and knowledge to review it all.
Loan Shark Joe shouldn't be perma banned, if only because we've seen people cheat in WAY bigger/more competitive titles, for longer, with FAR more malice and without any regrets without getting banned for that long. A year ban would have been more than enough.
