They literally just don't know how to express concern or disappointment so they choose to pretend to have power over the situation by "kicking him out." He's clearly still very much a part of it though lol.

If you fail after they kick you out they "called it", but if you succeed it was only because they raised you right and gave you the "push" you needed to be successful....any which way we cant win so just roll with what you got

this was such a beautiful way to show genuine interpersonal struggles within a traditionally-oriented family system, and what it means to always be the bigger person FOR the right reasons. his goals/hopes in life didn’t align w his family’s traditional views, and as difficult as it may have made it for him he always chose to separate his own emotions from what his family’s reactions/responses were. he understood that despite their frustration, rejection, and face-value lack of support, it always came from a place of love and worry for him. low-and-behold his confirmation of that was being seen one last time before departure, surprised w his favorite meal for the trip, and his father telling him heart to heart “pls text us when you land safely.”
