We knew something was going to go wrong, because it had to, but we didn't expect that the hardest and scariest moments of our drive to Victoria, BC would be on days 3 and 4. This is how we got through it! *NOTE* This vlog was filmed from June 27 - June 28, 2026. As of today, we have arrived safely in Victoria! Follow us as we continue our drive across the US. After that, I'll update you on our first week in Canada! I think that Matt did you a big favour by selling you four new tires. Driving through that storm with worn treads would not have been good. Chances are your flat tire was the same age as the other 3. You can worry about All Seasons or winter tires later. Do what Canadians do - rotate twice a year if needed! 🇨🇦
I nearly cried laughing when you did a price conversion for your corn plushie. You haven't even arrived yet, and you're already thinking like a Canadian.
ICE is presently snatching people off the streets. I’m so happy you are moving to Canada.
I live in Nanaimo and put winter tires on my vehicle because it helps with the wet slush and occasional snow plus they are required if you cross the Malahat in the winter
You have the coolest kids! And kids, you have the coolest parents!
it’s really good that you got four new tires. If the tread was weak on the old ones you would not have wanted to drive through that storm at the risk of hydroplaning. And like he said, your tires might just be good in Victoria.
Swap corn for wheat and its almost the same flatness from Winnipeg to Calgary.
You forgot her name because you were stressed and rushed over the Tire! I’m certain she will understand. It happens. 😊
850 installed for 4 tires? CHEAP 😮
Watching from Quebec, 🇨🇦
You and your daughter will remember this trip all your lives. Great memories together.
You will need proper winter tires if you want to go north of Victoria in the fall/winter. The Malahat (on the island hwy as you go through Goldstream Provincial Park) is the choke point to go up-island. Winter Tires Required from Oct to Spring. It’s steep and windy and has its own micro-climate due to elevation.
Wife and I have been enjoying your journey from the start of your Canadian future. I really enjoy the content and look forward to videos of your Canadian experiences
You'll be fine with summer tires for now. Once October rolls around you'll be required to get Winter tires to drive on certain mountain roads like the Malahat.
Albertan here. 1964 the family drove to Toronto on the under construction Trans Canada highway. Came back through the States and went to the Corn Palace and Mount Rushmore! They weren’t so fancy then.
From Oct 1 - Apr 30th you need Winter Tires or All Weather tires marked with M + S to legally drive on most highways in British Columbia. Quite common for people to swap out tires for the winter in BC.
"Pop in"?? That was so "corny"!!😂 This trip will be a beautiful memory for both of you 💓
*Clarification* - About the car, we had it fully inspected and maintenance performed before leaving including the tires. They had wear, of course, but it was not time to replace them. Our mechanic at the dealership was confident that we would make it to Victoria and would not need new tires for a while once arriving. When we arrived in Waterloo, there were no signs that anything was wrong with my car. When I went to drive it to the front of the hotel the next morning, the front right tire was flat. I had run-flats so we were able to drive it to Tires Plus. Here's the part I didn't mention because I'm honestly not sure what happened. I was so upset that I didn't check the tire to see if I could see the damage. After about an hour, the mechanic came out with a picture of my tire and there were two deep gashes in it. It still doesn't make sense. If the gashes were there the night before, my car would have gone flat on the road, not in the garage. He said it looked like it could be pothole damage, but we would have remembered if he hit a pothole. I didn't want to mention this in the video, because I honestly don't know what happened. It's upsetting and frustrating and confusing. I honestly never considered that people might think that I would drive my dogs and my child across the country without checking the tires first or I would have mentioned it.
You will be fine with summer tires. In Vic the worst you’ll have is lots of rain. We drove this route to see mom in Vancouver. Montana and Idaho are very scenic! Badlands are beautiful.
I am so happy and relief for your family to be able to move in a safer country where there is no ICE. Welcome to 🇨🇦!
