They didn't even mention at 19 years old, Audie Murphy was the only man left in his squad and facing an entire German company launching a counter offensive on his position. Over 250 German troops and multiple German tanks. Audie bravely jumped onto the top of a burning out of commission tank destroyer, using it's mounted .50 cal, saving the rest of his own pinned down company and Completely stopping the entire German offensive, saving countless lives. He grew up on a farm here in my hometown of Farmersville Texas. We have a holiday dedicated to his honor every year, and his picture is all over our grocery stores
I visited the USA in 2000. On our stay in Washington, we decided to visit Arlington. Our tour was close to noon, and we had to decide whether to get off at the JFK memorial or sit tight to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We decided on the latter, and just as I jumped off the tour bus, I saw Audie Murphy's resting place right by the road. What a tribute to both him and all the unknown soldiers😢
