When my soul dog lost his vision our vet reminded us that one of the beautiful things about animals is they don’t have self pity or feel bad for themselves, they just adapt and make the most of what they’ve got.❤
So sorry to hear about Meryl, but I'm sure you guys are providing the best care, support and quality of life. She's very loved around here.

Our kitty went blind this year also. She adjusted well, they just keep truckin’. It’s harder on us as humans. Big hugs lots of love

I volunteer at a shelter with cats and have seen many who are blind, deaf, tripods etc. They do really well adapting. When they're blind they use things like whiskers, hearing and smell to help them navigate. Whiskers are basically like eyes (they tell them if they can fit somewhere).
It’s the “what is the last thing she saw” for me.😭 Our dog was losing her vision and it was so hard to see her bumping into things and getting lost and stuck in the corners. She eventually made it known that it was her time to go. My parents called the vet and they happened to have a cancellation (very hard to get in otherwise). They put her to rest. The wild thing is we had a pregnant farm cat that came over to greet our dog that morning. They had a plan. A couple months later the cat abandoned her 3 week old kitten and my dad found her. My parents officially have a house cat. Lol
Oh sweet Meryl. Pets lesve leave a mark on us that we never expect to be so strong. I lost my dog way back in 2003 and there still isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t think of him and miss him terribly. All my love goes out to you guys. She is such a perfect kitty and such a lil trooper! ❤
Keep her close. Your smell is the most important thing. An article of dirty clothing in her favorite spot can provide comfort when you're not around. I've lost a few babies, and it never hurts any less. But you gave her a beautiful life.

You can be as sad as you feel you need to be! She’s been a part of your life for so many years and I’d say most of us understand the special bond with our pets. I’m so sorry that you guys are going through this but cherish every moment you have with her 🤍

My heart breaks thinking about how scared she would’ve been. She doesn’t understand blindness. That would be terrifying- poor baby. 💔 She’s going to have to grieve and cope with the loss as well.
No words! I'm so sorry but listening to Meryl purring away tells me with or without sight she is living her best life thanks to such amazing parents! Thoughs are with you.
I say this to you as someone who nursed a ckd cat, who accompanied me my entire life until the very end, including overcoming my fear of needles to give him daily IVs… don’t wait until she’s suffering beyond repair for your own selfish reasons of wanting to hold on. Let her go with dignity. You’re her voice and advocate as well as ultimate protector. You WILL have to overcome your own emotions to do what is best for her.
