Cornwall completely surprised us. In this video, we explore England's rugged southwestern tip, from dramatic coastal cliffs and turquoise coves to seaside towns and incredible local food. We visit Lizard Point, the southernmost point of mainland Britain, hike down to the stunning waters of Kynance Cove, wander the charming streets of St Ives, and enjoy one of our favorite meals in England at The Hidden Hut overlooking the coast. Along the way, we share what it's really like traveling through Cornwall in our 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser camper and show why this corner of England feels so different from anywhere else we've visited in the UK. For our stay, we camped at Merrose St Mawes Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, a great base for exploring Cornwall's coastline, beaches, and fishing villages. 📍 Places featured in this video: • Lizard Point - https://maps.app.goo.gl/MoAR5is2HQUUqfPN6 • Kynance Cove - https://maps.app.goo.gl/xp6Ug3HsJSi2vmfXA • St Ives - https://maps.app.goo.gl/3yDZrEPNdcw4cbTr8 • The Hidden Hut - https://maps.app.goo.gl/dpoYpgnGYH3b1Dzv5 • Merrose St Mawes Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite - https://maps.app.goo.gl/4YumRKsBww39dGC99 If you enjoyed this video, subscribe and follow along as we continue exploring the UK and Europe in our overland truck camper. #Cornwall #EnglandTravel #VanLife #Overlanding #UKTravel #StIves #KynanceCove #LizardPoint Huge thank you to The Caravan and Motorhome Club for partnering with us on this video! I still remember a trip to Kynance Cove 40 years ago. The black, green and red stone of the caves that you showed are formed from Serpentine often used for carving and jewellery. These caves can look spectacular when the sun catches them. St Michael's Mount is another iconic place to visit in Cornwall.
I enjoyed your video of my home. A visit to the Minack theatre when it's not raining is a great experience, an outdoor amphitheatre with stunning views high up on the cliffs of Porthcurnow.
Porthcurno beach and the minack theatre is a must see also St Michaels mount and Penzance , also the lizard peninsula and kynance cove , also as much as I love Devon I'm sure In Cornwall its Cornish cream in the ice cream and cream tea also Cornwall is jam first then cream on top Devon is cream first then jam I prefer the Cornish way 😋
Pasties. My Jamaican family will know that our patties are based on these, bought over by Cornish and Devon sailors and my god, thank you so much!! (there are also counties named after the British equivalents.)
It was the Cornish miners who went to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to mine copper, as they were the world's experts in copper mining. They took pasties to the UP. I'm from Devon, but my dad worked in Michigan, so I was impressed to find pasties up there! Little taste of home.
From Michigan here!👋🏽 And my understanding is the miners would also only hold their pasties by the thickest side of the crust to eat them. Then when finished throw that part away because of the metal residue. Thanks for sharing!
one reason Cornwall feels so different to the rest of Britain is geology. the land that makes Cornwall was from the other side of the planet and didn't join Britain until 300ish million years ago. and when that happened it not only gave us beautiful Cornwall and Devon, but created Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Mendip Hills.
the whole of the south west is pretty gorgeous - Devon next door is fabulous

I have to say, that I am extremely impressed with how well designed and edited your videos are. I appreciate the little touches, such as the geographical coordinates at each location, and the way you credit the artists of the music you use; it's the small things that make all the difference, and separates you from others who make similar content. I hope you had a lovely time in our country, and return soon. Best wishes from this Briton. 👋
I was lucky enough to live and work in West Cornwall for 15 years. A big change after South London, but we loved it. I lived in Hayle and taught in Penzance. The Roseland Peninsula is a gorgeous part of Cornwall and a great base to see many places nearby. Pirates were not really a big thing in the West Country (not with the massive presence of the Royal Navy!). Smugglers were much more common, even trading with France during the Napoleonic Wars! Goods could be stored in the many caves after landing by boat from a bigger ship. North Cornwall has its sights too - some areas around Newquay are fantastic although Newquay itself is a “tourist trap”! The drive around the Penwith peninsula from St Ives through Zennor, St Just,,Sennen, Porthcurno and Mousehole is a scenic delight with plenty of good cafes on the way. Padstow, Rock and Polzeath in the NE of the county and then Tintagel are good to visit too. There is just so much to see in Cornwall - you could spend weeks and not see it all. Enjoy a return trip sometime soon!
I'm Cornish, you'll find Cornish communities in the States, Butte Montana being one of them. This is because our miners were so well renowned that they were invited around the world to work on various mines. I drove to a place called Butte in Montana (Cornish mining community) from my home in Alberta to get my pasty fix, we get everywhere 😂
Thank you for sharing your honest take on Cornwall! Your stunning footage of the dramatic cliffs, turquoise coves, and hidden coastal spots was absolutely breathtaking. It has provided such a wonderful, detailed perspective for those of us curious about this beautiful part of England. I truly enjoyed watching your travel adventure. Great work 🌊🏴✨ 👍👍 2
Try Fowey, StMichaels Mount, Mevagissy, Mousehole. You are soilt for choice and the local beers are something else. Keep on Trekking.🧐
As it says on the road signs: Ere's Kernow. Buy our fudge then sod off!
Seems like you missed out a lot -- here's my list of 5 1. Perranporth - for rockpool explore, surfing and on the beach bar/cafe ----is one of my favourites 2. Gwyneth sands - for many mile stretches of pristine white sand beaches - that are less crowded than other areas (or used to) 3. Bedruthin steps - giant rock and arch formations on draamatic beach/ sea scape 4. Minnac theatre - perched on cliff open air theatre experience 5. St.Ives - ok tourist central hot spot ! but out of season still accessible and still a must
Having been to the Lizard I can confirm that the lighthous there also has an egregiously loud foghorn. (Or at least it did 30 years ago when I went there.)
Always thoroughly enjoy seeing the brothers and sisters on the other side of the pond enjoy our beautiful Isles. Really makes you take a moment to appreciate the things we may often be guilty of taking for granted. Glad you are having a great time, you're more than welcome here!!
If you are going to Michigan's UP, at St Ignace, (just over the Mackinac bridge) you can get a great Cornish style pasty from Lehto's Pasties. Please check opening times.
The Eden Project. 3 main tropical sealed huge biomes and a restaurant that serves produce grown in the domes. Newquay, Totnes, also try and learn a few Cornish (Kernowek) words, it's closely related to Welsh and just as old.
