Rust is finally getting character customisation after more than 12 years. But this isn't just a video about hairstyles or beards. It's about why Facepunch said no for so long, what that decision revealed about Rust's original philosophy, and whether the 2026 roadmap represents one of the biggest pivots in Rust's history... 🌲 Get 30% OFF a RUST server with Pine Hosting now! I've been an asian woman for a decade. I dont know how to be anyone else.
There's a funny irony to overpolishing a game called Rust
my guy was young and asian now hes old and asian 10/10 character development
Character customisation was just the excuse I needed to make this video. It's actually about Rust's identity. Something I've been thinking about for a very long time... So.. Do you think Rust has changed... or have we?
For a game named "rust" they certainly like to smoothen and polishing the game
Shadowfrax is the ONLY rust news channel
Rust is Rust, but will never again be rust.
Who remembers jump checks? Really miss the slow pace the game had back then
someone finally said it... thank you
Not a Rust only issue. They are dumbing down every game that gets popular just to make it easier for even more new people to come in, but is it worth it when you are losing your old players?
having no character customization made rust so unique.
I’ll never forget the stress playing on a potato computer early on having a nervous rush come over me every time I went to make the jump on the dome. I can’t believe they removed that.
Rust became a shooter over a survival game right around when they added wooden barricades. It's no longer about navigating the terrain as safely as possible but you can always pop up your own little fort.
rip Brinda
This type of game dev eventually hits all large studios. Blizzard caved to it as well. Appeal to more, polish, refine. Then you gradually create a game that tries so hard to cater to everyone, it satisfies no one.

For me what hurt this game the most was the tech tree. The rush you got finding a weapon or GD and trying to get home before getting killed to research it was the best. 8.5k hours and its hard for me to play the game now, feels like the rush is gone
10k hours here, and this is exactly why old Rust hit different. Back then, dying actually mattered. You couldn't just W-key across the map, slap down an instant wall, and reset the fight. Every roam had consequences. Getting home with loot meant making decisions. Do I risk the open field, or take the longer route with cover? Do I stash this now or keep going? Need a garage door on wipe day? Better get lucky, grind for it, or find someone willing to trade. Outpost wasn't a magical safe zone. There was no Giant Excavator printing resources, no pay-to-win skins, and for the love of God, no attack helicopters. The game wasn't more convenient—it was more unforgiving. And that's exactly what made every successful run feel earned.
why they make my character look like he's having a allergic reaction
almost 2 years since i quit, 10k hours, Rust was unique, but with every single update the game changed to the point it doesnt feel the same, i miss old rust, fog war and that feeling i cant explain, like a mix of thrill and fear, i dont know, i made a lot of friends ingame and have a lot of good memories, but that game and that memories will never come back...
