I have a hub assembly removal tool I paid 40$/cad for on amazon. Basically goes over 2 wheen studs, put nut over it and use the 13/16 bolt to apply pressure on the knuckle. I took my wheel bearings off on my 2010 Outback with 339 000km in less than 5 minutes a wheel. Taking the bolts holding the hub to the knuckle was harder than taling out the actual bearings since im lower to the ground in my driveway...

Doing it at home takes swear words from the time you are leaving to go to the store to the time you’re done

You guys outside the Rust belt have no idea how easy your life is in the shop. I wish I could work on something so rust free.

I live in Michigan and my newest vehicle is an 04. Listening to you refer to that rotor as you did is hilarious. You have it incredibly easy if this is the level of rust you deal with.

“Rotted rotor”… that looks brand new. You should see a multi year snow season (salt) rusted one…

Dont underestimate the backyard and mobile mechanics out there, they can and will get that thing out of there 😂😂😂 especially because now milwaukee makes a cordless hammer so we going to war with all the subaru wheel bearings 😎😎😎👌🔥💪💯✅️

Toss the brake rotor back on backwards, tilt it enough to get it to bind on the studs, and hammer it outwards. I managed it with hand tools in a driveway with a nearly twenty year old rust-belt subaru that was my one and only means of transportation at the time. That does assume you're replacing the rotors at the same time, which you probably are, because it's a Subaru.

Good job, it took me much more hammering but the one i worked on was a rust bucket. Had to do both sides. Went to the JY and got a whole knuckle vs busting out all the tools again lmao

The secret? Thread a bolt in from the back side and a nice big dead blow hammer man. Works EVERY time lol

Smashing the stubborn bearing with a hammer after removal is a key part of this repair

Just dealt with a seized bearing in my driveway. 2 options. 1, grab a bag of dry ice and pack it around. Itll shrink so fast itll break itself lose. If that doesnt work, 2, take the whole knuckle/spindle out and call around to find a shop willing to press it out for you.
