Toby and the team have this really great sense for introducing softness in moments of horror and dread to remind you "oh, wait, this is why it's so dreadful to be here in this moment right now. think of what today COULD have been like if you hadn't been, y'know. I find it so funny that Susie's personality quirks are basically just "jrpg protagonist". Susie: "Yeah I already did the festival, but I'll do it all over again just to see what you do this time around." Susie: "You ever just wish you were inside someone's house? 27:58 The worst part is that I can relate to Noelle's psychosis a little too well; growing up in a small town, you tend to notice how everyone around you is so contented to live the same couple days over and over again— and once you notice that it becomes maddening, especially if you have gone through an extremely traumatic, possibly life altering experience, and have been provided with little to no assistance because people want things to "go back to normal"

Fun fact: in the ARG, people who were able to continue it can ask where they would want to go. There were few who said “at the bottom of the lake.” They didn’t receive an email, like the others before the chapter’s release… until hours AFTER release! The message they received said “what do you think?”

Undertale's No Mercy route definitely made you feel bad for doing it but it was in a more "you're the big scary bad guy who everyone hates now" type of way that you could become desensitized to. The Weird Route, where all the harm you do is psychological, is concentrated almost entirely on a single emotionally vulnerable person, and is only really judged by the character you're controlling, it makes you feel *awful*. It really shows how much Toby's grown and improved as a writer over the past decade. I can't think of anything in a game that's felt as gut-wrenching to even witness secondhand as this
