um.....fuck that teacher for calling out the entire school to humiliate THEM because a black kid outdid them all. she could have publicly acknowledged how she was wrong about Benny, or congratulated him personally, but no, she backhanded the whole school in one swing.

At first at the award part, I thought the teacher was going to say, "he has no father in his life, -but despite that he has reached his goals-" or something but nope. Awful 😞

You know it's a good mother, when instead of calling her kid dumb for getting bad grades (which sadly IS the norm), she instead encouraged him, calling him smart. It does make a difference for a growing child. When a kid hears they are nice/smart/capable while growing up, their brain believes that and the kid tries to meet the standard. When a kid is called dumb/lazy/bad, their brain believes that, and therefore a kid doesn’t aim to better themselves, already thinking they are set for failure.

The initial surgery was a success, but left one twin with severe complications and he was eventually institutionalized. The other twin was also messed up but I don't know if it was due to the surgery. He is a true pioneer and a literal genius, but truth is important and I'm sure he would agree. I doubt he romanticizes that 1987 procedure in the same way this movie does, even though he essentially created profound medical techniques which are still used all over the world to this day.
