By the time ES6 comes out we'l have had Dawnwalker, a new KCD, A 4th Witcher and some indie RPG hit here and there. I have zero faith that it'll live up to anything other than Todd's wishes.
Bethesda losing control over their IPs is the best thing that could happen to all the IPs
Asha Sharma to Bethesda: "What would you say... you do here?"
the fact that Todd is still in charge is mindblowing
"So what you do at XBOX?" "I'm managing the managers of managment"
Todd Howard reminds me of a baseball coach I had in high school. The coach had one district title from like a decade before I got to high school and hadn't done anything since then and always brought up that win. Refused to try anything new or switch up his drills because "they worked when he won district". Todd seems to have the same energy.
16 times the manager layers
They probably had to tie Todd to a chair to deliver the news Obsidian is working on Fallout again.
TLDW: I think Asha is taking control away from studios that have previously had complete control of their IP. She wants XBOX to support IP across studios with multiple making games in the most popular franchises. Effectively, treat IP like Elder Scrolls, Doom, and Fallout like COD. Have multiple studios that take turns making the games so they don't take 20 years to make. Love it or hate it, I think this is the new normal...
Someone in charge actually telling Todd to pull his head out of his own ass and get it together? Sound almost too good to be true.
The last Fallout was 10 years ago, 15 years for Skyrim and Bethesda thinks people will feel sorry for them for losing staff?
the phrase "if you don't use it, you lose it" comes to mind
0:05 bethesda not being allowed to wait 40 years between releases is excellent news
Let's be real, Todd's best days are behind him. Also, it's not "Bethesda's" IP anymore. They sold to Microsoft, it's not "theirs".
“Woah woah woah we actually have to make games now?”
> release an amazing game in 2011 > release three games in the next fifteen years > release a trailer in 2018 for a game that doesn't exist > act shocked when you lose control of your studio Bethesda is COOKING 🔥🔥🔥
I was single and living with a roommate when Skyrim came out. I've bought a home, got married, got divorced six years later, had two kids, one going into fourth grade, had a German shepherd live a full life span and another dog reach her senior years. I could keep going but I think the point is made. Most of us have been through multiple life defining events before they could produce a proper ES sequel. It's insane.
How can business people be upset that a CEO is "too in tune" with their customers?
Bethesda do need a kick up the arse. Not only to address their very slow development time but also the quality of the games they've released.
"Let's pretend BGS has a good leader." If Todd was feeding Asha the same platitudes he's been giving us for the past few years, I'm not surprised he infuriated her.
