If James payes £40000 and gets back £5000, it is the same as if James only payed £35000, so no, only he payed for his car.

I'm glad to see Clarkson come around on a lot of his old opinions. I know they exaggerated a lot for the show, but it seemed like he was really against social programs like funding electric cars and eco friendly stuff, but now he has to have government funding to run his farm. The whole, "hey did you know you paid for James May's car?" bit later in this episode vs him on Clarkson's Farm hearing they are losing a subsidy just shows a lot of growth and learning he's done. Plus he seems quite fond of nature these days. Governments have gotta pay to help people sometimes, especially helping people do something the government wants them to do anyway.
