It breaks my heart that you continually feel like you have to justify your lovely home to those who don’t get it. Having many chronic “invisible”illnesses as well as a painful divorce, I 100% relate to your own “invisible illness” with your nervous system. Your mind/body/spirit takes waaaay longer than you ever think to recover from survival mode to the risk of being safe. Please give yourself the time you need, and a massive thank you for being the GIFT OF HEALING to so many for so many years. God bless you and your family, and love, bear hugs and prayers every day ❤😍🙏🏻
Your house does look sooooo beautiful and calming. Not sterile. It's all perspective 🩵
I love how you are bringing mental health into the conversation. It's so powerful. You've changed my life with your messages. ❤
Yes! I am to the point where decorating which I used to love, is now draining. The fatigue of decision making along with "curating" stuff has exhausted me to no end. I adore your home. It is cleansing to me.
The only folk who get to have an opinion on your home are the folk who live in it. Everyone else should just mind their own business! Also, I just wanted to thank you for something you said in a recent video about getting rid of any sentimental stuff that didn't hold happy memories (I can't remember exactly how you phrased it). I am the youngest in my family and there is no next generation. About 12 years ago now, I was given a huge suitcase full of family photos going back over 100 years. No one else wants them but they 'need to be kept' because they are family history. I've been feeling so sad every time I look at that suitcase and it's really become a burden. Well, yesterday, I had your advice in mind, and I sat down and went through the whole lot. I've put aside a handful of photos of people I recognise, and also taken out a few that might be of interest to various archives, and I've binned the rest. In one way, it felt bad, but no one knows who any of these people are, no one wants the photos and when I'm dead, they'll all be thrown out anyway, so I might as well do it now and save myself the trouble of dusting and cleaning that suitcase every week. It's such a weight off my mind!
I’m proud of you Dawn! You help so many women with more than just organizing. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Bless you and yours. Your house is beautiful and peaceful. The point is it’s your home no one else’s xx
Loving your content lately! Even though my divorce was almost 9 years ago now, concepts you’ve been discussing lately are so good for my heart and yes, even still, healing. I am now remarried and so happy and grateful. There are people out there who will treat you with the love and respect you deserve, keeping it above the dignity line. ❤ Prayers for all who find themselves in a difficult season.
I hushed ONE counter in my open concept kitchen and it has helped me calm down in my chaotic home. I can’t imagine how it would be if I could do it for my whole house. It’s wonderful that you’ve found what works for you and your family, I bet you’re able to handle the busy-ness of life because the home is relaxing!
Your home might not be colorful right now, but your wardrobe is! It was the other way around a few years ago. My experience has shown me that people who wear mostly black and very dark clothes are usually going through something difficult, especially if black is not their color. Your home might be neutral but you are glowing, Dawn! ❤
Don't ever let anyone else tell you what you need! Only you know what you need!
Your hair looks awesome!
Dawn, your house looks like a healing dream to those of us still slogging away at decluttering our way out of decades of auto-accumulate with others living with us who are not yet on board with parting with 'just in case' and tons of extra sentimental items. Enjoy your clean, calm surroundings and know how inspirational your journey is.
Your home is perfect for you and it is serving you well! My home has bright walls and lots of art and people still tell me it looks too empty sometimes. There is no level of stuff that will please everyone. Just keep doing you! ❤
Your house isn’t cold and sterile. It looks lovely and peaceful ☺️
Thank you Dawn! ❤ I’ve been a long time follower but recent family events and the impending birth of my first baby in August has had such an impact on me. Your wisdom in all your videos has really helped me make changes in my life for the better.
i miss a black ceramic decorative pot i culled 40 years ago. only thing i’ve ever missed.😂😂
I totally get why you're currently feeling the way you do. I left an abusive marriage 2 years ago, moved in with parents, then moved out on my own 8 months ago. I have been chronically ill for years so day to day life was always a bit of a struggle, but I didn't realise that I too had been living in survival mode all that time. Since I've been living on my own I've really struggled with my health, motivation, and just things that I was able to do just fine before, suddenly I don't have the bandwidth for. I'm currently in the process of decluttering a lot of my stuff. Like you said, it's one more thing I have to care for/clean and it's just not what I need right now. I'm glad you feel that living an even more minimalist lifestyle is helping you in your healing, it gives me hope for my own journey too. Thanks for sharing your story with us 🩷
Grateful for my family too during my separation and divorce. What a blessing for you too to have so much support!
Yes. Finally a few weeks ago I got rid of my table cloths. I had them and changed them and cleaned and washed them for 3 years since we moved to this house but it was just too much with 6 kids. Even though it looks sterile without it and I love the cozy look of the cloth, it is sooo much easier without it. I realized table cloths were my ideal fantasy. And actually the ease to maintain the table clean is 1000% worth the cost of "cozyness". I am more able to maintain my peace. You are right. Thank you, your videos and advice help my anxiety ❤❤❤
