Yes, this is true! Once my dad got arrested for speeding and not having a license while I was in his car. So they gave me a teddy, my mom picked me up later, and my dad got out of jail a day later, but yeah!

Not related, but one time someone put a tracker in sole of his old shoes and donated them to the Red Cross in Germany, saw it moving around around a couple of countries before settling in Bosnia. He went all the way to Bosnia to see where it was, and found out it was in a thrift store. After looking around for a bit, he found the exact pair of shoes on sale for 10 euros. He bought it back and talked to the owner of a thrift store, who stated knew it came from Germany, but said he bought it commercially. Later, the German American Cross said that sometimes they sell donation items that they can't give at the moment and use the money for other "charitable uses."
